F30 Wheel Change!!!
Hi Guys so I recently purchased a 2013 Bmw 328i xdrive. So it came with stock 17" wheels and I was looking to upgrade to 18" aftermarket rims but I need help with a good setup to run. All these tire sizes have me confused because I don't want any problems like rubbing etc…

Welcome, you posted in the correct section, so all you need to do now is read through the endless threads that will provide numerous examples of different setups you can run. "Good setup" is very vague and doesn't give any indication of what you are looking for in terms of fitment, tire/compound choice, etc.

Honestly I just want a good setup that doesn't give me problems I'm already hesitant to go up to 18" but preferably a tire that's not too meaty so it gives a nice look with the rims. I'm open to all suggestions. |

At a basic level you can just figure out the specs for your current wheels (width and offset), then size up to 18s with the same specs, and reduce your tire sidewall/aspect ratio to compensate for the extra wheel diameter so that your overall tire height is the same. This of course assumes you don't want something different... which again you need to do research to figure out what you like/want. Then, you can post specific questions if you cant find confirmation of fitment. |

1)what is your budget for everything...rims, tires, tpms
2)square or staggered? 3)face style you desire...such as 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or more spokes, U, V, Y spokes, mesh, lip or not, concavity, etc. 4)looks, performance, both? any tracking, sporty driving, or not at all. 5)summer tires or all-seasons 6)stock height, lowered or planning to? adding to what jeremyman9 already suggested, it's best if you find a pic of a wheel face that interests you and post it here so we can give you better guidance. most of time, budget tends to be the deciding factor. . In the list above, I would start with #4, then move to #2, and then #1. #5 is directly tied to #4 in many ways. #3 is the point you start looking at the options driven by what you decided on all of the other items.
I've always found the best place to start a project like this is to figure out what you want to accomplish by the change and then work from there. Moving from 17 to 18 isn't a big deal and nothing to worry about. I wouldn't go any larger due to weight. My personal recommendation is to go/stay square. I have three sets of wheels, summer, winter, and track/autocross. Winter and track wheels are square and the summer set are OEM staggered. I like the driving feel of the car on the square wheels far better than the staggered set.

Okay so after some deciding I think I'm going with these rims. I did some research seen a lot of people recommending the continental dws06 tires all seasons? I'm open to other suggestions if you guys have any? Also my setup is already square so I think I'm going to stick with that. Now I just need the tire size I seen people saying 225/45/r18 not too sure. Also should I keep them runflats? And I'm keeping it stock height not lowering or anything. And I chose the continentals because I live in Canada and it snows like crazy I heard those are good on snow too versus other performance tires. |

My 335i Xdrive came standard with BMW 400M 8.0"x 18" ET34 square wheels. Stock runflats were 225/45-18. I got rid of runflats and upgraded to 245/40-18 on the same wheels. Much better handling! An XDrive with a square tire setup is great because you can rotate front to back and they will wear very evenly. A set of 400M square wheels used are about $600/set in good condition. Hope this helps! |

225/45/18 is the size of my winter tires on my 18x8 wheels The DWS06's are a good tire and if you are only able to run one set of wheels/tires, they are probably the best bet. They aren't as good a dedicated winter tire, but are pretty good.

never been a fan of cast replica wheels made in china and i agree with johnung that you're better off getting a used set of OEM, 18x8 ET34, style 400M, 441M or 397, instead. however if you're gonna do china then it might as well be something flow formed, such as these. i believe Fast is offered in Canada...
https://www.aodhanwheels.com/collect...35029168881821 https://www.vividracing.com/-p-15315...hoC-DoQAvD_BwE https://fastco.ca/Fast-Wheels/Alloy-...nish=FC04%7CTI personally, i'd increase budget and get a more reputable brand 18x8.5" ET35ish flow-formed wheel to reduce weight whilst retaining the same strength as cast wheel. for tires i'd go with 235/45/18 as it provides a better ride, more impact protection, more grip than 225 and reduces some of the unsightly x-drive wheel gap. here's a links of 235/45/18 on OEM 18x8, and 18x8.5 ET35 https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1634952&page=2 https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1844734 if you don't care about wheel gap 245/40/18 is the widest tire for an 8" or 255/40/18, widest on 8.5" will give the widest contact patch. . Okay so I think I found the wheels I want these are flow formed. But they only offer 18x8 offset +35mm is that okay for my car? Also will it be okay with the 235/45/18 tire size you recommended? |

Yup. You won't have any problem at all, both with the fitment on your car and the 235 tires.

235/45/18 wrapped around those decently light rims will fit your bmw perfectly without issue and provide a nice handling, performance and aesthetic upgrade. get the DWS06 PLUS, if you can as it's slightly more performance oriented than it's predecessor, the DWS06(no plus).

I've got the 400M wheels w/DWS06+ on mine. Bought the car used with DriveGuard run-flats, and the previous owner had replaced them one at a time over a couple years. Ride and handling were pretty awful... the car was also unpredictable over bumps and grooves. Massive improvement with the Conti's.
