black exhaust tips help

I bought a 2013 328i Sportline CPO that was in great condition other than the neglected black chrome tips. I tried regular exterior car paint polish and even a household magic eraser but that black soot is layered and hardened. Any suggestions to get my tips back to their mirror finish?

Try Borla exhaust cleaner. Use a towel that you can discard afterwards to first clean the tips, then use with the polish.

Thanks. Looks like there are chrome cleaners for $3. I try the Borla cleaner if the cheap stuff doesn't work.

Some good videos on you tube. Just search for exhaust tip cleaning and all sorts of videos show up.

Metal polish and a cheap microfiber should be able to fix it with some elbow grease.

Also, I've used AutoGlym metal polish which works a treat.

Keep in mind, it requires some serious elbow grease. It will clear up but give it time!

I use NU Metal from eagle one. It comes in a metal can and is cotton with stuff on it. Been using it for years.

Just thinking....as these are black chrome tips, using these products may remove the black anodization.

Just keep that in mind....

Don't use anything too abrasive to agitate/work the polish or cleaner (like a scotch scrubpad). If anything, pull the tips off the pipe, let them soak in some warm water and cleaner for a bit. Then work at it with a soft toothbrush or something similar.
