Question for you all..

If you can hear a slight buzz or rattle when going over rough roads but only when the radio is off would you still try and find the problem or just live with it?

I feel like I'm constantly chasing rattles and buzzing sounds and wasting hours and hours trying to do so.

What car do you have? How many miles?

The buzzing while driving of rough roads is a very common symptom. On my previous 2013 BMW 335i sedan, multiple sources produced exactly the same sounds. The loudest sound came from driver side AC vent. The dealer added insulation and that particular sound disappeared.

I would try and track it down because any buzzing/rattling drives me nuts!

Since living with the 3-Series creaks I have found a simple fix...

It's a 2016 lci model with 20k

I have previously removed both door cards and added extra insulation and foam pads to the plastic clips so there's no chance of them rattling.

The buzzing over bumps seems like it's coming from the rear and a different chassis noise from the boot.

Ah, the reason we all spec HK - had forgotten how the base system looked

OP - I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless it's a worsening problem. these are built to a cost and you are never going to get 7-series refinement. Keep the music on is good advice

One thought though! I had quite a loud rattle from mine over bumps when it was nearly new. Took a BMW tech for a drive and within ten yards he had identified the folding seat catches as the culprit. They did something to fix it. I didn't ask what as i suspected it might just involve some tape or similar.

I think I may just. I've wasted so many hours if not days on trying to eliminate a sound only to drive down the road and hear a new noise. Just have to live with it now maybe next time I go dealers I'll mention it and see what they do.

It’s not the creaking door syndrome by any chance?

I get a buzzing from the cup holder cover when on rough roads (which is most of my commute on the A41!). I know it's this because if touch it, it stops. I did also have a rattle coming from the glove box that turned out to be the lock.

2015 LCI model. 39k miles.

By creaking door do you mean the rubber seals? I treat mine with gummi pfledge every 2 weeks so I don't think it's seals.

It almost transitions daily from a buzz to a rattle to nothing, like a never ending cycle lol

Maybe to the tune of sound deadening but no 50k+ car should be creaking like a Toyota camry

I have just had the door locking pins changed and didn't do anything but these were my problem. they wobble in the holders when locked and buzz. in the end they used some felt / squeak tape and all is well!

eliminate this problem by having the doors unlocked whilst driving. if it doesn't rattle or buzz that is the issue.
