Also, there is a limit to battery capacity vs hybrid efficiency. Bigger batteries only help on the plug in part, not the hybrid regeneration part. In hybrid regeneration mode, you only need enough battery capacity to harness the energy from a deceleration event for the next acceleration event. Not very big at all.

Hybrid is a stepping stone, with limitations.
A stepping stone I won't be availing myself of then.

I have a very smooth Jenson Button style though! (I wish) my long term average is 30mpg over 76k which I think is pretty good.

I'm coming round to the idea of a hybrid (not full electric yet though), but casting around the market there isn't one that has what I want.
It's definitely a compromise. Best one I've tried is the new Cayenne E-hybrid. Expensive, but seems the least compromised due to being a hybrid, and gets the most of the upsides.

Apparently 70% of new Panameras are hybrids also, so combining electric with a smooth 6 pot engine may give a different feel to the 4 pot plus electric that everyone else does.

I can't afford one of those! A guy at the gym has one it's lovely but not in my price bracket I'm afraid.

I'm thinking a Golf Gti might be a good blend of performance and economy if the hybrids aren't going to suit me, plus they are cheap to buy/rent.

Too much of a stretch for me too unfortunately!

Careful, saying things like that there'll be someone along in a minute to accuse you of not driving it properly!!

my last long journey was around 1100 miles and average was 47.7MPG, but I driven with average speed 76mph, and on every tank did over 400 miles, so not too bad, I thought then will much worst. Only one think which annoying me is small boot, rest is amazing. During regular working week I using only electric motor, so it's not too bad as some say.
