F**k this key fob!
Anyone else come out in the morning to find their trunk open all night? I can’t tell you how many times this has happened and we had a monsoon last night. I have 4 BMW’s currently and have had 5 others and never ever have I had this issue on than on my 2015 f30. I have taken the protective cover off I bought and all. I need to disable the button someone I’m so beyond pissed and scared to death to look in my trunk today.
Thanks for any info Tom Last edited by 335inDe; 09-08-2018 at 10:57 AM.. |

Yes I've found my trunk open all night twice, and once all day at work. Not sure if it was the key fob or the foot sensor thing tripping by mistake. That thing is over sensitive, several times the trunk has popped from walking around it.
The latch on my Subaru was defective. Once in a while the trunk would fly open on the highway or stopped at a light. I'm waiting for that to start happening... Sorry yours went up during the rain. That really sucks .... I'd be pissed |

There's a service bulletin to change coding to require multiple presses of the fob to open the trunk. You can find the thread on this site with details. If you have comfort access, it's also possible to inadvertently trigger the trunk release while walking behind the car.

In the glove box there is a switch which allows you to lock the trunk.

Well I’m guessing it’s in my pocket when I come home and before I make it upstairs I must do something that triggers it in my pocket. Either way it’s a piss poor design and has never happened on any of my E series. As far as the foot sensor wouldn’t the key have to be in range for this to work? If not animals could be running under it at night for all I know lol.

It's known that people ass open their trunks, so there's a fix to account for that. But it's still not the fob's fault. Maybe it's a neighbors TV remote or garage door opener, maybe it's a short in the fob. To be sure it's not that keep the fobs in a metal can, so even if defective they can't send a signal to the car.

I just went down and tested mine. I squeezed on the entire outer fob cover with my thumb and the fob in my pocket. Trunk opened right up. Went into iDrive and found I have a setting for the trunk button to open either the trunk, or the trunk and unlock all doors. I plan on having the double push coded in on my next service.

I wonder if there's an api for this. Like an ITTT where if forecast is rain and windows or trunk is open then send a message or alert to close them.

CA is ok. Line control is extremely annoying. All of these aids are making drivers lazy as well as unaware of their surroundings. Instead of offering all of these conveniences, manufactures should offer driver training. Cars are always improving but the shitty drivers are still on the roads.
