My 335 is different, because it has the AA exhaust and is just begging to be raced. Doesn't yet have a tune installed, so I don't beat as many people off the line with it, to be completely honest. But in short, yes, even with the wagon, that roundel calls out to people to press on the accelerator. sometimes fun, sometimes downright annoying, particularly the Accord V6 coupes.

I've noticed this and it's a much more common occurrence as compared to when I had my previous car. Lots of people who stop alongside me at a red light gun it in an attempt to either race or show off their engine. I just laugh and try not to indulge them. I always heard about the "insecure" BMW driver stereotype (to put it nicely) but it wasn't until I started driving one that I realized most people are insecure about their car.

This thread is quite old so not sure if I've posted here already, but yes, once a random guy at the neighboring pump at a gas station in the outskirts of a small town approached me asking if I wanted to race. I had no interest in doing so plus my family was in the car with me, so I said no.

Had a guy in an M3 try to race me on the jersey turnpike. Drove next to me and kept trying to get me to race. I was in a 328I guy must have been looking for an easy win to impress the chick in his passenger seat

they dont try to race you in NYC , they just cut you off, squeeze in small spaces, change lanes dramatically and haphazardly, stop abruptly, rush for the exit on expressway from the third lane at the very last possible second, enter highway on-ramps and merge thru traffic like a bat out of hell, Never ever signal- even if its not a BMW lol, text and talk on phones, do make up, lipstick, brush hair, eat food, read newspapers, honk at you, flash lights, tailgate, give you faces and finger signals lol, dont stay within the designated lanes, go over 25 MPH on NYC streets (speed limit in NYC is now 25 on streets other then hwy), and think i covered most of it.. but they dont randomly challenge you to race, not that I have seen lol

I would never even think about racing. But a few weeks ago at a light -guy in a Mustang GT asked me if I had a V8. I have a 340 and some people think the "40" means V8. I told him what was under the hood. Exchanged compliments. The light changed and he squeezed the gas. I decided to go for it. He had zero chance, I actually backed off. At the next light he asked again if I had V8.

Completely agree however goosin it to just under 50 mph in 35 isn't really street racing although I would agree it's not smart.
I typically save my fun for the curvy mountain highway 17 to Santa Cruz here in CA. Unfortunately the next most fun I have is on straight freeway on ramps

Street racing is not too wise, too old to end up with a reckless driving ticket or worst, a manslaughter charge. In the DMV couple of months ago, a kid on a sporty car(I can't remember what car it was) but it was a sporty car. He killed a whole family and now he's doing several years. Again, call me old, but "i'm too old for that shit".
Although I admit, sometimes I feel like putting some people in place. On 495 and 270, if you do 70mph, they be tailgating like (not to dish the 320 crowd,it's the 4banger fact) "move" that 320 out of the way, once I took of to a maxima, got like 100 yards from him then I let him catch up, he didn't tailgated me anymore. smh Last edited by Golo2016; 05-12-2017 at 07:05 AM.. |

A Honda Civic was revving his engine in front of me at a stop light. Probably because my exhaust setup is quite loud. At the green light he stepped on it and I caught up really easily in the single lane road. There was another car in front of him later on and he decided to go across the double solid white lines to get ahead of him lol. I just slowly cruised behind the other guy, not worth it haha.
Not exactly a race, but just other drivers being reckless when they see my car This one time though I saw a X6M come up behind me on the freeway. He pulled up beside me and nodded. Then he shot off ahead of me. I had a stock engine at the time and wasn't even close to catching up to him lol. I did try for a bit though

Yeah that would be the wise thing to do.
I really want to take my car to the strip one day and see how it performs. Tracking my car I'll pass for now

I was just thinking about this -- because I've had 2 rental cars recently (one because my BMW was in the shop and the other because I drove to Miami for a week and didn't want to take my car).
Both rentals I had these tiny little "ladybug" style oval-shaped POSs that we all see on the road. A Nissan Note and a Chevy Sonic. Both complete POSs -- not because I'm a snob, but because of build quality and poor engines. It's funny -- driving THOSE vehicles people tried to race me more than in my BMW. Here in Orlando, everyone seems to have these LadyBugs it's those who floor it at stop lights and try to cut you off. I guess because they are so affordable and maybe some think they are SUVs, they seem to be 40% of the vehicles on the road. But -- I don't see the race or "out do you" mentality when in my BMW ... mabye they already know they can't out accelerate me. lol I always laugh when I hear these Lady Bugs floor it and strain their POS CVTs trans. -- Go ahead .... get to the next traffic light before me... YOU WIN!

I used to think so every morning near the Fiat headquarters but I figured out recently that it's just that they are late for their daily shift trying to communize even more parts between the Ram and the Challenger.... while slowly dying inside. Anyone make this connection?
