Can we replace the servo motor before it fails, to not risk the eccentric shaft? I'm sitting at 72k and the car runs flawlessly, I've gone through most of the car, I'll replace the servo motor early if it means preventing more work later.

You must put the eccentric shaft in the maximum lift position after installation. I learned the hard way. Also when I used ISTA D to activate the valvetronic motor I did not have enough voltage. You need a little more than 13 volts. It didn't work until I got 13.3 volts on my multimeter. A battery charger won't work. You need a voltage stabilizer. I built a DIY version since a retail version is at least $500 or more.

Using 2 HP 2 DPS600PB at 13.6 volts, I barely got 13.3 volts when I hooked it up to my car. If I bumped the voltage any higher on the HP's, they would go into self protect and shut off. I actually had to use my battery charger and the 2 HP's to get it to work. I was praying it wouldn't damage the computer doing this so I recommend something better. When I finally got ISTA D to work it went through 160 cycles with car running. Car will sound like it's stalling as it cycles but that is normal. Then 20 cycles with the ignition off, and finally 3 cycles to learn the limit positions.
Hi, I have a 2012 f30 335i. I recently changed the valvetronic motor due to some related codes. The eccentric shaft was fine, there was no sign of worn gears or biding. My problem is I cannot do the ISTA+ valvetronic relearn process. It's giving me error 134F01 and exiting the process. It wont allow me to run the engine on idle step.

Do you think it's because of the voltage? What do you think if I boost it with a another car follow the relearn process? Or does it need to be a voltage stabilizer? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

It sounds like the most cost effective way would be to have another F series BMW running and hooked up via jumper cables.

OBD2 is the plug under the dash on the driver side that allows you to connect to the vehicle. It's what you would have used to scan for codes.

JB4 is a piggyback tuning device.

Suggest you google them.

BMW Valvetronic Code

This is for the F25 chassis Engine N20. Mine is a BMW X3 28iX drive, 2013, it has 80,000 km.
One day during a normal drive in the morning I got the annoying message in the dashboard “DriveTrain Malfunction…” Limp mode activated, I stopped and turned the engine Off, waited five minutes, turned engine On and the error disappeared, the car was running fine the rest of the day and next days until I got the time to run a diagnosis using ISTA.

ISTA is the software used by BMW dealers or specialised workshops to diagnose any malfunction, so far I have used ISTA in my F30 and F25.
Memory fault was read and I got this two codes:
133B04 - Valvetronic system ; no adjustment possible
133E10 - Valvetronic system: deactivated , adjustment fault too frequent

The first one appeared as not present but the second one was still present. Decided to follow the procedure to try to repair the problem. It took me about two hours running all the test using ISTA, you will need a battery charger to keep the battery voltage above 13v during all the procedure.

The problem was fixed, the Valvetronic system was recalibrated by the software, no tools, no spares, no work under the hood, SIMPLY scanning and diagnosis the car using BMW software. Start saving time and big money, get yourself a laptop, ISTA and the USB or ENET cable to connect your car.

Mine was replaced for free by BMW, they have a 80k mileage warranty on that part even if your car is out of warranty.
Hey Man sorry to resurrect an old post. I recently got a 135704 code and am wondering about how you're emission coverage was 80k miles. Where are you located and what part is covered exactly?

Thanks

Hey all, I appriciate your help.
I recently replaced the valvetronic motor on my f30 335i 2012. My issue now is with ISTA (on my laptop with windows 11).

As you know, 2 service funtions should be carried out after the replacement.

First Function: "Valvetronic running-in phase"
Basically when I start this funtion (consisting of 450 cycles) the procedure starts but the count is very quick. This can not be normal right?. It was like less than 1 second for each cycle.

Second function: "Learn valvetronic limits positions"
The problem is that ISTA is not able to start this function and throws this text:
The starting coditions for teaching-in limit positions are not met. Either the engine speed is not exactly 0 or the valve tronic relay has not applied.

No matter how many times I tried this error still appeared eventhough my motor is off, and only ignition is on.

I read that there are latency settings on ISTA than can cause a miscomunication between the car and ISTA. But didnt find futher explanation.

Does anyone know what going on wrong? I have ISTA version 3.47.10.

Sorry to bump this post*

Anyone have a good fix to this issue, my 2012 335i makes an audible click when unlocking or opening a door, does this mean that the valvetronic system motor is bad or anything along those lines?

I have a 2011 335i (e90) but with the same PWG N55. I had this issue and the shop near me replaced the valvetronic motor and valve cover gasket for $1,300.

Did you have a single audible click or multiple clicks?

As my 335i has only a single click that I can hear, and I see that other people's cars are making a continuous clicking sound for a few seconds, and they said it was their valvetronic motor.
