Wheel spacers before/after

I realised I've never really seen people post before/after pics when they installed spacers, so here are some I took when I had mine installed yesterday - didn't have a bloody jack at home so I took it to the local tyre fitters

Had the wheels balanced too as my mate had his car in getting his balanced, turns out BMW had 55g weights on one wheel when it only needed 10!

Best part was the fitter mentioning to me after "I know you guys are anal about your cars, so I've made sure the center caps line up with the M badge on your wheels, and I've put every locking nut in line with the valve, so you'll know where they are"

Edit: forgot to mention, 12mm fronts 15mm rears

They push the wheels out further so they don't look sunken into the arches.

Also they make your car filthy immediately after a wash thanks to the tyres flinging up a lot more dirt onto the side of the car

I swear once you add spacers seeing no spacers on other cars cannot be unseen. I look at other cars and think they need spacers!

+1 I think this all the time now! On cars without spacers, it looks like something is missing

I sometimes stand there and admire the way my car looks and sits after the springs and spacers! Sad I know

Why did bmw design the car in such a way that it needs spacers? Did the designers want to bunk of work early because it was a Friday?

The car doesn't need spacers. Fitting them arguably makes the car look nicer (and changes handling to some degree but at the possible cost of higher stresses on other mechanical parts?). Besides if BMW wanted the car to have a wider track, they wouldn't use spacers to achieve it

Different wheels and tyres will be closer than others to the arch. So there is a big tolerance to accommodate this. (And things like snow chains).
