So, this is now a thing starting for all '14 models?

Looking at RealOEM, even with the 2014 Sept builds for the 328's, it does not list the ASD module under the audio/amp section.

My 2013 MSport w/M Perf Exhaust is @ the dealer for a drive train malfunction (limp mode) and the 2014 328 Luxury Line with std exhaust has more growl. I thought for a moment it was faster then realized it was just the sound.

Just hopped online to see if there was a thread on this..

Just dropped my car off and got a 2015 328i loaner. I have had numerous F30 328 loaners and earlier this year a 2015 320, but this one's engine sound jumped out at me the moment I pulled away. Whatever they have done, I like it, and it's pushing me even closer to getting a 328 wagon now!

Interestingly, the 320i I had earlier this year did not impress me with its sound, it was blah, like earlier 328s. That is surprising since they have the same engine, and exhaust?, but perhaps no active sound activated.

Do I also detect less idle clatter than before on the this engine?

Honestly, who really cares if it's fake? It's a 4 cylinder eco-engine and after a week with a 328 vs my 335i I personally found myself liking the 328 better, the new "Gruntier" tone did not hurt. Would be interested if they also applied this to the 335i.

I would almost rather them admit it's fake and let me turn it up to 11 so I can have the fun of a loud exhaust and turn it off when the wife gets in the car. My Corvette was so loud she was embarrassed to be seen in it.
I agree 100%. If it sounds good whats the big deal?

I can confirm the newer cars 28i have active sound. It is very fake if you ask me. Its coming from the speakers. I test drove a 428 2door and a 428gc...both have it

I have a m235i and that too have active sound but no where near what the newer 28i puts out...its somewhat laughable but I dont mind it (I ordered a 428gc)

I drove a 320 as a loaner today. I doubt that there is active sound in that car, since it is so quiet, but can anyone confirm this?

I never knew if this was true but driving in Eco Plus mode and staying within 1.5k-2k RPM while producing a pretty sweet low growl had me thinking we had active sound. I feel cheated.. but it does make my commute that much more enjoyable.. thinking that my car sounds that good in Eco Plus mode and stock. Until I get an exhaust system this'll have to do!

Anyone know if the B58 (340i) has it? I've heard it has but can't hear anything fake in my cabin, even when I floor it... but then would it actually work and sound right in a manual??

The 320 does not have active sound. I didn't know 2014 328's had it, thought it started with 2015 models. They all have it now. Almost every manufacturer with a turbo 4 uses some form of it - the audi A4 has it, the GTI has it, etc. With BMW, the M cars even have it.

I had the n20 engine in my 2014 320i and it didn't have it and that thing sounded like pure ass at WOT. My 328 sounds SO much better. I really couldn't care less if its fake. Its not like the 4 banger sounds good anyway.

Anyone know which fuse is for ADS in a 2014 328d? I cannot find it listed anywhere.

Am I the only one who actually finds it kind of cool? I have a '15 N26 328i, and in sport mode it definitely has a throatier intake noise from forward of the cabin which I am 99% sure is the Active Sound... that said, it's kind of fun. I don't really want an intake so for $0 it makes it more fun to hear inside. I dunno, doesn't cause me any issue really.

Really? I would say "awful job, BMW." The sound doesn't even match the tachometer.

I turned ASD off in my '14 328i. Best coding change I've done. It's a 4 cyl turbo - the engine doesn't sound like ASD in any way.

Apparently this can be disabled by unplugging that trunk amp.

Isn't this just on M-edition vehicles?

Not sure, personally I think all n20 sound like diesels especially when first turned on. Smooth out a bit after a while but still not a pretty sounding engine
