What line is my car? Sport steering wheel standard on base?

Hey everyone,

Newer f30 (328i x) owner and im incredibly confused if my model is sport or base. Was under the impression that I had the base model, as it came with 17" wheels, but now looking at my inventory report it shows I have the sport steering wheel.

The thing is-I didn't think this was the sport steering wheel. It doesn't have paddles.

Is there any sure way of telling what model you have? Heres some specs below.

✓ Heated front seats
✓ Moonroof
✓ 17" Light Alloy Wheels Star-spoke Style 393 with All-Season Tires
✓ 40/20/40 Split Rear Seat
✓ Additional 12-V power sockets
✓ Ambient Lighting
✓ Auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors
✓ Auto-dimming rearview mirror
✓ Automatic climate control
✓ BMW Assist eCall
✓ BMW TeleServices
✓ DVD Area coding (North America)
✓ Dark Burl Walnut wood trim
✓ Daytime driving lights
✓ Floor mats
✓ Hands-free Bluetooth and USB audio connection
✓ Hi-fi sound system
✓ Highlight trim finishers pearl gloss chrome
✓ Power Front Seats
✓ Rain sensor and auto headlights
✓ Satellite radio preparation
✓ Sport leather steering wheel
✓ Standard Instrument Cluster
✓ Storage package
✓ Tire pressure monitor
✓ Universal garage-door opener

I'm gonna say non-Sport, based on the list.

Thanks. I figured it was non-sport. Perhaps the original owner just added on heated seats and steering wheel.

The Sport line comes with 18" wheels. Looks like your steering wheel was probably an option. Who knows though, maybe the 17" wheels were the option? If you have black trim on your front and rear bumpers, black rear view mirrors and black exhaust tips, you have the sport line. FYI my old 328i was the sport line and it also had no paddles.

I think after the first or second year, all F30 cars came with the "Sport" steering wheel. I thought I read that somewhere, anyway. The base wheel just felt way too cheap for a BMW 3 series.

I agree. Just buy some 18" M sport take-offs from another F30 owner. You can get some decent wheels/tires for under $1000 all day. Especially if you are looking for square wheels.

The sport wheel is the standard wheel. It's confusing because it says leather, which it doesn't appear to be. I thought mine was vinyl until I pulled it to add a wrap and cut some of it away. Leather it is, high quality leather it isn't. I can recommend adding a mewant leather wheel cover.

My previous '14 328ix was sport-line, with 17" wheels. Don't they come in luxury line, sport-line and M-Sport?

No one has asked the most important question. What year is the OP’s car? The lines went away for the F30 with the 2015 model. At that time, the Sport seats became standard. Sportline trim became std but not the suspension (18” wheels with lowered sportier suspension on RWD models). I believe the Sport steering wheel has been std the entire F30 run other than on MSport optioned cars which got an upgraded steering wheel. Please correct me if I am wrong.

AFAIK you're right. My base model came with everything the OP has as standard with the exception of heated front seats. Even my moon roof was standard, although that was because it was standard on all F34.

Sportline steering wheel had silver trim and red stitching to match the red stitching & piping on the seats as well as the red trim accent.

...the "lines" sort of continued thru 2016 (and Sport Line 7AC appeared as standard)...see ordering guide in URL below. Also the crappy non-sport seats were still part of the Luxury line.

To OP, why not just punch your VIN in to one of the many decoders and get the full read out of your car's options....

I did that, but still received an array of differences. Reason I even brought this up is because I recently brought my car to a different dealer (bmw authorized still) and on the invoice they marked it as a sport edition whereas my previous dealer marked it as base.

Weird, I always thought I had a base steering wheel, but checked one of the VIN decoders, and it shows as "Sports leather steering wheel" under options.

17" Wheels = No Line. Pics will give a more definite answer.
