Dashboard sensor? / Proximity sensors

I'm sure there's already a post regarding this topic so I apologize in advance. Seems like there's a sensor of some sort on my dash and I'm really curious about its purpose. Can anyone explain what it's for? Also, I drive a 2014 AH3, i wanted to know if it was possible to use the ultrasonic sensors in order to detect an object hidden in the blind spots, you know, the way the turn signals on your side view mirrors light up? Can this be done with coding?

That might be the ambient light sensor that controls the brightness of the gauges during daytime. I could test mine out but it is morning here and much easier to see the results at night by flashing a flashlight on that spot when the headlights are off...the gauges should increase brightness temporary.
