F30 Android Avin 10.25 rear camera install

I just purchased this unit (Model: BMWF30A-1025) from avinusa. I'm still new to the unit, but I'm very satisfied with it and Tommy at Avin has helped me tremendously with all of my questions. I also purchased it with a rear camera, which had no instructions on how to properly install it, so it would function. I was able to figure it out so I decided I'd make a DIY thread and share this information, because I couldn't find it anywhere.

Assuming you have installed the unit into the vehicle and mounted the camera in the trunk location, you will need to follow these steps to properly wire it in. ***You will need a relay to power the camera, which is not included***

1: Locate the reverse wire:

2: Camera connections (trunk/boot side)

3: Relay connections

4: Head unit - For the Avin 10.25 you will need to connect the red camera power wire to the "360 Parking" wire coming from the 10.25" screen. You will also need to connect the Yellow camera RCA to the Yellow RCA labeled "Camera" from the new wire harness. The Android setting must be on 360 parking for the camera to work.

This is my 1st post so I hope I was able to provide some useful information to the forum!

hey, I have been trying to find someone with the avin 10.25" installed on their f30, you are the first and only post i have found. would love to hear about your experiences with the unit itself. Install issues, how it well/poorly it operates, pictures/video of it in action, what works, what doesnt work, what you wish it would do, etc. Anything really would be appreciated. I have a 2014 with the small screen and just curious about a better screen
thanks!

You should post photos of this unit and OEM iDrive screens, not only Android.

I have worked with Tommy and Avin extensively for the E46 and E53. Massive upgrade on both platforms, and great products.

I'll try to put something together tonight or tomorrow. So far it's been decent. Any issues I've had Tommy@avin has helped me with. It takes some getting use to, but if you program you buttons, above the heater control, it makes navigating through the audio and phone much easier.

I will reach out to Tommy as well as I have installed Avins across four different vehicle platforms, and am deeply familiar with the release for the E46.

Fascinating there is a model for the F32 as well, and will reach out on this too.

Need help

hi Cjrando74

Need your help.....I am getting this system from Avin. Can you post another with step by step method to install this back up camera.

Sorry, I have zero electrical experience & looking at the pictures I am still confused.

Can you tell me what I need(relay, additional wires, etc?) & where you got them?

I want to try & install this on my own.....don't want to pay installer. Thanks!

Thanks Raichean! I have watch other reverse camera install on Youtube but not sure how similar the Avin one is to those. Specifically where does the camera get power from? I emailed Avin and I am told that there is a wire at the back of monitor that will power the backup camera. However I have no clue which one that is...

Happy to help.. on the trunk end you tap power and ground into your reverse light, so it goes active when the light triggers on. You then run the wire down the right support post under the cover and under the right rear trunk carpet wall. Continue the run down the passenger side, under the door sill cover until you hit the base of the A pillar. Then run up behind the cover, behind the glove box and into the space behind the head unit. Connect the video wire and the (usually) red trigger to the wire on the harness marked trigger or sometimes camera. Sounds harder than it is.. lol

I am sure it is actually easier than it sound. I recall struggling to hit the buy button even after watching your DIY video and the PDF install guide. LOL

So there are 2 wires from the camera, the video and the trigger wire? You mentioned I need to tap power and ground into the reverse light so do I need special tools or parts for that?

No special tools.. just simple (probably 16 gauge) wire taps and you will be gtg. If you are/were in the PacNw I would give you a hand

Hi, I am sure automotive relay 12v is surely needed for powering up the camera. Otherwise camera turns on for few seconds and turns off showing no signal...
I need more help in connecting this relay.

I am not in PacNw, but should be within a couple hours of driving LOL (I am in Vancouver, BC).

Anyway, thanks for offering help and I am right now still thinking about getting the reverse camera or not. If I do hit the buy button and run into problems, I'll for sure let you know.

Not that far away in the big scheme of things.. honestly easier than it sounds. 8)

Happy to help.

Worst case, if you buy it all but don't want to do the install at all, email or message me directly and we can talk about me doing the install for you.

Hello,

I'm new to this forum but I recently purchased a 2013 320i xDrive. I'm trying to add a no-name aftermarket OEM integrated backup camera and am having some trouble figuring out how to power up the camera. I have a red and black wire and am looking to connect it to the right side reverse light but am not sure which wires to splice and I'm not sure it will be enough power to power up the camera.

I've attached a photo of a similar camera that I'm working with.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
