[QUiKSR20]

Hey all,

Parked my car, worked 9 hours and when I got back in the car to go home "13 F30 328i" my instrument cluster is completely blank.
No illumination, No readings on the gauges and also all the miles per gallon and other readings that show up on the LCD screen are also reading ----

Anyone ever see anything like this? There is nothing on the forums for instrument cluster out etc..

Car runs fine but it sucked driving 30 miles home at night with no speedometer or gauges...

Thinking it was a fuse I check all the cluster related fuses on the printed diagram "50,52,121,155" All are fine.



After pulling and checking each fuse I start the car up and the cluster is fine, But I have a check engine light now which may have been self inflicted...

Has anyone see this behavior before? Gonna whip out the ENET cable and laptop to see what code I have..

I did it had CODE P15FE

I scanned it with a generic scan tool and cleared the code, From what I read I really need to scan this with my laptop using E-SYS or Tool32.

I found an N55 Fault Code Sheet and it says : ( I have an N20, should be same code )

The fault is recognized when no CAN time signal is transmitted for longer than 5 sec.

Collateral fault resulting from fault memory
entries in the DME and/or instrument cluster
resolving issues related to other faults logged in
the DME or instrument cluster; no additional
action will be needed with these kinds of faults

BN2000 0x3396 13206 Engine switch-off time, signal: missing

The diagnostic function monitors transmission of the CAN time signal from the instrument cluster.

Diagnosis is interlocked by CAN fault.

The diagnostic function compares the internal P15FE External Engine Off Timer No Signal Engine Off Timer, External Electrical from fault memory entries in the DME and/or instrument cluster.

It was random and I cannot find anything about it, Ill chalk it up as a mystery for now unless it happens again.

My cluster flashed blank and back on a few times last night on the freeway on my 16 340i with only 1800 miles. what the heck? this was the only thread i found after searching and searching.

Also happened to me on my 320i twice in the last month. Only got 15,000 mi on my car.

Unless it's an older model, you would likely be under warranty, no?

Yeah, I probably should just take it in. It's just that the instrument cluster faulting doesn't happen often, and I was hoping there's a quick fix to it.

Next time it happens, take a video of it on your phone. You can show it to the SA if they say "We couldn't replicate the issue."

Hi all

Not sure if anyone will pick this up now (so will be starting my own thread too), but i have a similar problem with my F30 hybrid (2017)
Went to start if today, engine fired up but dead cluster.
I have checked the fuses stated by QUiKSR20 but still have the issue.
I have codes - P110F (ambient air sensor), P15FE (Engine switch off time signal), and strange one, U119B (possibly ambient temp?)

Wondering if anyone can advise more ?

FWIW I just had this issue, car has been sitting for a while, got some messages in my car that said something along the lines of "battery draining while stopped"

Today went to take her for a drive and my instrument cluster was completely dead. Threw it on a battery charger and charged to full, then pulled fuses 50 & 52 under the hood. Put them back in and the instrument cluster came back.

Is it still running? I'll be honest - I hate to mess with cluster issues myself. Here's a reliable source for repair/replacements, if anyone else sees this thread revived and needs their help.
