N20 Timing Chain and Leakdown Module
First post and first time BMW owner.
Just picked up my first 2 BWMs, a 14 F30 and and 15 E84. Of course I had heard about the horror stories about the timing chain and the leak down module. Fortunately, BOTH of these MAY be covered by an extended warranty offered direct from BMW. Coming from a Porsche Cayenne (cooling pipe issues) and a Porsche 996 (IMS bearing issues) I know how these gremlins can haunt someones mind. I never had an issue with either of my cars, but it is a concern. However, I just got off the phone with BMW Owner Reimbursement and although I do not have any symptoms of the problem as of yet, I wanted to put my mind at ease. Apparently the part change that fixed the issue occurred sometime in 14/15 thus my E84 is not on the list. However my F30 is. What does this mean? Well according to BMW the timing chain and oil pump drive is covered under warranty for 70K mileage or 7 years, and the leak diagnostics module for 10 years and 120K. The number I called was 844-857-0341. When I take the F30 to the dealership for the winter oil change (40,000 miles) I will have them check to see if there are any symptoms of either.
