Living in California, I've never seen the preheat warning. Also my engine starts up at idle speed, this is interesting to see.

That is seriously impressive. The 328d didn't even have an issue with it.
Not using a block heater or anything?

I have started my old ALH Jetta TDI in -21 deg C, on a Colorado trip, and it was the funniest thing.

I to have no issues starting up (-24C yesterday at 0400 hrs). I have a front and rear dash cam and in these frigid temps, the battery voltage drops quickly, the dash cameras auto shut off at a certain voltage to not kill the battery. When I get in my car I get the battery message in iDrive and my state of charge (SOC) is in the %50s. Since then I use a 3.5A 100Ah NoCo charger and don't get the batter message, but its hard to get the battery SOC above 70s, I've only gotten 98% SOC once and it wasn't charging much longer than other time when it only charged to 70s. I wonder if the IBS has any play in this...

The app is called BimmerLink.

OP: Does your car shake at all? Mine feels like a sight misfire starting at -2C and feels more pronounced as the temp drops. It only happens at startup and goes away after a few minutes. Its been like that since brand new. I have 96XXX KM on my '17 328dx.

No block heater just the battery charger in the trunk I plug in.

Yeah it shook this morning you can see it vibrating when I first start it through the steering wheel. It will shake a bit once I shut the engine off - any temp or time as well but that's just the high compression nature of the diesel.

I have found that if I unlock it while I am walking up to it, it starts heating up. So by the time I get in and start, its barely a second before she fires right up. Definitely not close to the temps you are getting, but we were in the low teens (wind chill/feels like in the single digits, Fahrenheit) this week.
