It's literally your word vs theirs. For all they know, you flashed the car as soon as you got home. Your best bet is to escalate with BMWNA to see if they can help, especially considering your mileage.

They said there was a programming count of 11 after the vehicle left the factory. But they won't give me proof. They said they can only give it to me verbally. Without proof, I'm supposed to just walk away with a $25K bill?? And without proof, I can't even go after the dealer that sold me the crappy car.

Do you think they can see dates on the DME data showing when the 11 occurrences were?

Would the dealership have changed the air filter at the 36000 mile check up that I had done the day before it blew up? Would something like this have occurred that quickly?

Did you have the b58tu(supra?) hpfp? I am wondering if the increased fp causes premature failure to the non updated injectors. Per thar tech article that was posted in this thread earlier.

I am an indy shop with a 440i here that has leaky exhaust valves in cyl 6 and of course low compression. I havent yet tore it down but expect a burnt valve and will have to do some work to determine why it happened, assume failing injector. All speculation of course until it gets tore down.

why higher FP ? the pump may allow for a higher Fp but if you run the same tune , the rail pressure wont change , the pump in combination with its fuel quantity valve and the engine fuel pressure sensor , follow what is set in the tune . its a simple closed loop controlled by the dme

Maybe not fp, but you're still asking the injectors to flow more fuel than they were designed to with the stock tune, or even non-HPFP OTS maps.

Precisely!

I guess I should have been more clear, I make the assumption that everyone knew this vehicle had a tune. Seems silly to install an upgraded hpfp and run a stock tune, seemed like something I could omit.

Iirc the non tu was 200 bar/atm and the tu is 350? Begs the question, is the tu always 350 or is a function of load? Does any of the bm3 tunes raise it to 350 with hpfp?

Thanks
Chris

Personally not running it, but no reported issues. Will run fine on the stock tune. Doesn't push much past the stock 2,800 psi.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks. Your post above addresses my first question but not the second.

I was also looking for some corroboration of, hopefully, first hand experiences on this; That’s why I asked despite your post.

If this vehicle is running a tune for a hpfp at 350 bar with injectors made for 200 bar then this is something I need to look into, follow me?

Thanks
Chris

For anyone interested. My customers car ended up failing vacuum test on #6 cylinder. So there is either broken ring and/or ring lands on piston. Valvetrain passed vacuum testing.

It is still unclear what has caused the failure.

Interesting that many of these failures on are cylinder 6. Interested to hear what you find, lots of speculation on faulty injectors washing down the cylinder walls causing scoring on the walls and maybe even ring destruction.

Cylinder 6 run hottest. My first misfires were 5 and 6.
