Help with Ohio Emissions Test

Moved to Cleveland area July 1 from Florida, and along with the normal moving aggravations had to endure switching DL, title and registrations for my 340i and Ford E150 to Ohio.

In Florida it’s all done at one place (and no emissions test) Here, you go to BMV for DL, then get your ViN checked before driving across town to title office, then to E-test site to get the seal of approval you aren’t a pile of shit polluter, then back to BMV for plates and reg. Van passed and I knew the 340 wouldn’t as I had just flashed from MHD stage 2, to stage 0, OEM downpipe option (as advised by other modded users ). With the failed test you get paper plates and 30 day temp reg.

So I figured with 30 days I can get my readiness monitors set and go to kiosk and self test and all is good. Or try to to do drive cycle to speed up the process.
After a few days all but 4 monitors were set and I was making trips down to granger county to see friend with mixed highway and city driving.

Then the dreaded Catalyst CEL come on. I have VRSF catted downpipe that has about 10K mikes on it. Cleared that but it comes back. Just to verify, I flashed MHD stage 0 with aftermarket downpipe option and it is masking the CEL , but as I understand, cat and cat heater readiness will always show “Not Available” as it is being suppressed by MHD.
I sold the stock downpipe back When I didn’t know I would be moving to emissions testing state, so putting that back on is not an option
I am open to investing in higher quality high flow down pipe that will not throw cel, at least long enough to get past test, but they are hard to find in stock at the moment. I’d rather invest in that than buy used OEM part on eBay, with prices close to high flow options
Is 02 sensor offsets a viable option? Which ones?
Any other ideas? Move back to Florida? ( maybe not a good idea at the moment for other reasons) sell the 340 and get a Subaru? (winter is coming !!!)
Also, whats the deal with AC/refrigerant monitor showing “Not Available” ?
I’ve searched and can’t find anything on that. Here is MHD readout at the moment

ECU status: -

- Readiness -
Misfire: Complete.
Fuel System: Complete.
Components: Complete.
Catalyst: Not avail.
Heated Catalyst: Not avail.
Evaporative System: Complete.
Secondary Air System: Not avail.
A/C Refrigerant: Not avail.
Oxygen Sensor: Complete.
Oxygen Sensor Heater: Complete.
EGR System: Complete.

you can do the register your car in Montana thing.
Or try an o2 spacer I've heard that can work but it can be finicky.
Or like sapphire said, you can look for a "guy" to pass your smog, but that can be real pricey...

Yes seems like the O2 spacers are hit or miss, but maybe worth a try as it’s little $.
Haven’t heard of the Montana registration thing, but I already have title and temp reg for Ohio.
I’ve heard you can find “friendly” inspection for a price. Feels like I might as well put that dough in a part that will pass, either OEM, or High Flow that will pass.

That’s the way I wanted to go, but they are back ordered at the moment, with September being when they start to ship more.

These are good ways to not get a CEL but for getting the monitors readiness, these have never worked for me. Put the stock cat back on for a month.

Yes that seems to be the gray area here. I have read users who installed the AA high flow DP passed emissions inspection, but was that a sniff test and OBDII scan for readiness monitors? Did all the monitors clear with the AA DP?

Here in Cleveland you can go to automated kiosk to do self scan, but haven’t tried that yet. I have heard some say that it may pass anyway with more than one monitor not ready. I’ll give it a shot to see what happens. Or try the full service station again when I’m down to the 2 -cat monitors as the last not ready.
Maybe they are cutting some slack. Not sure how many tries I get. Or what happens when you keep failing.
Might have to bite the bullet and get OEM pipe and install to pass now and in 2 years

Ohio DMV should list monitor requirements for passing. AA Catted DP does not require decat to be selected in tune, and the cat is 49 state legal, so all readiness monitors show ready. Not sure if it would pass a sniff test though.

So was hoping to buy the AA catted DP but they are backordered until mid Sept and I needed by 9/1, so I ended up biting the bullet and getting OEM pipe. Getting the VRSF catted pipe off was really easy as it had only been installed a year ago, but the dang downstream O2 sensor was solidly frozen in the pipe.

Much cussing and heat from torch and really big wrench finally got it off.

With everything together it only took one day to get all but 3 monitors ready and those were tagged "Not Available". These were the Heated Catalyst, Secondary Air Pump and the AC/Refrigerant monitors.

Thinking for sure the SAP was required I held off getting tested. 3 days later still the same and research sugested those tagged NA where not applicable. Decided to try one of the OBDII self test kiosks for shits and giggles and lo and behold it passed! Whew!
Now, do I sell the OEM and get the legit AA DP ? (got 2 years till the next test) or keep the OEM and do the el switcho in 2023? For sure im putting
the VRSF pipe on for now, and while i'm at it, my loud Agency Power intake to roar around the country side (for a bit).

FWIW I have a straight spacer in my downstream O2 sensor and flashed back to stock and everything was ready for Ny emissions. I did buy a mini cat like teknik mentioned above but did not need it.

But seriously I should have never sold my original DP in the first place (or stayed in Florida).
But if that works, id give that a shot if I still have the car in 2 yers when I have to retest.
Unless going catless through, the AA catted solution seems to be the right way to go with tune and still be legal and tree hugging friendly.
At the very least im going to sell the OEM pipe now, as I cant see needing it.

Ohio e-check kiosks will fail you if you have a single monitor not ready and then your vin may be recorded and you may be required to go to the in-person check. Catless DP is not worth it in Cleveland with all the terrible potholes.
