Just tried moving from a 6S to an 8. Previously all of our devices on the same Apple ID kept the most recent 1000 photos from any of the devices in 'my photo stream' . The other devices still seem to do this, but for some reason the iPhone 8 only has 100 photos in this section.

I have seen that there is an 'iCloud Photo Library' option in settings to upload all photos and videos and access them from all devices, but I quite liked it how it was before - just the last 1000 photos in my photo stream.

Any one else experience this, or have an easy solution?

I think it's the setting below that that you need checked on all devices with the same Apple ID.
Settings>photos>My photo stream

And you need t be on wi-fi for them to connect so maybe you just haven't waited long enough.

Thanks for the suggestion. My photo stream is switched on, and it appears amongst the albums, but it only contains 100 photos instead of 1000 on the 6S I transferred from

I have just tried taking a new photo and it has gone up to 101, so I now wonder if it will sort itself out over time by adding (without deleting older ones) until it hits 1000.

It can sometimes stall on transfer, leave it overnight connected to wi-fi and see if they're there. The images tend to come through in batches.

Photo stream is in the cloud. It's probably still downloading them. Perfectly normal.
