F30 retrofit IHKA to IHKA3 possible?
Hello,
i have bought the HVAC controls lci but i have IHKA ECU, not IHKA3. I have tested the HVAC controls lci but it doesn't work. I have looked at wiring diagram of bmw f32, production november 2013 like my car and bmw f32 production july 2014. The only difference of the two wiring diagram is for production 11/13 the pin 22/23 of the heating air conditioning system are connected to pin 33 / 34 of the FEM A173*7B for LCI production 07/14 the pin 22/23 of the heating air conditioning system are connected to pin 1 / 2 of transmitter X20*1B then to pin 10/11 to the FEM A173*10B. So i have bought and installed IHKA 3 ECU behind the glove box and I have swapped the two pins of the heating air conditioning system to the transmitter x20*1B or pin 10/11 to the FEM A173*10B. i tested the HVAC controls LCI: I could change the temperature, the intensity, the direction and some other things. But the led for the back window heating was blinking. With ESYS, IHKA or IHKA 3 didn't appear in ECU. A friend tried to retrofit like me IHKA3 he began to code a new zeitkriterium. he changed it from 1113 to 0314, saved the FA and coded first only the FEM. After that he saw no difference. So he decided to code all ecus with the changed FA and zeitkriterium. But also he saw no difference. he also wrote the changed FA to the car, but it made no difference too. we have no other idea what we should do now. Someone has an idea or has done this retrofit? Best regards |

I haven't done it but I read about it in German forum as well as here and it was not possible. Like here to read:

The control is working itself. I can enable auto, change temperatures and the colors are workings too. The problem is the air directions on manual mode. I can change the positions on panel but nothing happens. |

Amy result on this? After installing IHKA3, did you code it? Or only FEM? In first post, it was said that everything was working and just some blinking LED's, but I read that this is normal for about 5 min after installing it.
I want to make this change too, but before buying IHKA3 module, I want to know if it can be done, or not. gribouille1210 , did you upgrade your FEM firmware? and as I can see in ISTA+ rear windows heating is connected to REM, so maybe REM must be updated too. my original istep 13-11-502 I have upgraded to 15-11-502 all my ECU So the FEM and REM are updated. I couldn't code IHKA3 because IHKA3 doesn't appear in ESYS in SVT or ECU |

Hello again, last night I was trying the same thing, IHKA 3 from 06.2016 and new panel white/amber 01.2017, moved CAN wires from FEM 7B 33,34 to FEM 10 B 10,11. Climate starts, air flow can be moved, ventilation speed also, heat seating also, only rear window heating blinking, no AC and always white.
Some strange thing, even if IHKA 3 received start messages from FEM on CAN2, they can communicate between them (FEM and IHKA 3) otherwise nothing will work, IHKA 3 can not be seen by Esys so can not be codded. I was thinking if someone has a bench tester with an old FEM and a new IHKA 3, if it can do a CAN converter from CAN2 to CAN and connect IHKA 3 via CAN converter to old CAN connections for IHKA, if then ESYS will see IHKA 3 and if it can be coded. I want to try this, but I don't have an FEM and I don;t want to spend another few hundred euros for testing. Maybe someone who understands how CAN messages are working, better then me, can tell me if it is possible to work via CAN converter from CAN to CAN2 or not. If it is working then we can retrofit IHKA3 to pre LCI F30, otherwise .... not |

I managed to code IHKA3 on my 2012 F30, blinking led for rear window heating is off now and working as it should. Only thing that is still not working as I can see , is AC. When I press AC button, copressor doesn’t start. I will make some more tests next week and maybe I will find a solution. Wish me luck.

Yes, I could see IHKA3 in Esys and I could code it. After coding it, no more blinking leds, and all working except AC. For coding it, I used an can proxy.
For the moment, because I’m working alone at this project, I put it on hold. |
