I think this creates an interesting dilemma. Unlike the last generation, where there was a stratospheric difference between 328 and 335, this generation and that turbo 4 is fast out of the box and has tuning potential. Obviously so does the 335 and tuned will probably romp a tuned 4, however if someone was looking and happy for about 300 hp, they could spend 10k less and get the 328 with a 600 dollar tune and be right there.
The dilemma for people is why spend that on a 335. You should either go for the 10k cheaper 328 or pony up 13 grand more and get the M3! |

When I got my E92 I drove both the 328 and 335 and the difference to me was night and day and I went for the 335. I did that again with the E90 I have now. As much as I love the 335 I feel I never fully use the power. I will more than likely go for a 328 this time around. A lot of torque on the low end which is something I love about the 335.

I agree that the bump in horsepower and torque with the N20 engine in the 328i now makes it a less obvious choice than before, but there are still very good reasons for getting the 335i over the 328i. I already have my pre-order in and ED date confirmed for my 335i and am very comfortable with the choice. Last edited by SoonerJohnInDallas; 11-18-2011 at 08:20 AM.. |

E90 335i was almost 200.000$ without options in Denmark. I don't think the new will be cheaper unfortunately...
I look at your price tag and think to myself that that is horribly cheap compared to here. If any of you have complaints, I'll gladly sort you out with the info that my 118D hatchback used still costs more here Lucky SOB's.

Base price for the E90 335i here is €56k, $76k and you sure want some extra's

There will be very few reasons not to go with an m3 for 10k more compared to the choice for the e90 which offered something the m3 did not have which is turbos and some like that. I personally hate them but that is just me! |

I think you are being overly optimistic with the price premium for the M3. I would expect a base MSRP of no less than 60k, and probably closer to 65k.

I think the 335 engine with gas efficiency is perfect the way it is. It's right between option that most people want. The right cost and gas mileage. IMO, The daily work commute 335 is the ideal choice vs m3

Does the screen remain in the extended (up) position all the time? I hate "TV" screens in cars whether it's the pop-up kind or BMW's previous double hooded dashboard. It's distracting and interferes with outward vision. At least Audi (whose cars I don't like) keeps the screen down in the main part of the dashboard.

With this update, it seems the original base pricing included $875 dest charge and so the actual increase is only $300/$350 for 328/335.
My configuration was roughly below, ignoring metallic paint, dest charge, etc.: Code:
2011 2012 335i 42,050 42,400 ZPP - Premium 2,650 1,900 ZSP - Sport 2,150 1,700 (Sport Line in 2012) 609 - Nav 2,100 2,550 (ZTP with HUD in 2012) Total 48,950 48,550 So, 2012 model with more features is actually less. I really want the M-Sport, so will have to see how that pricing compares to 2011 cost of $3,750. However, the Adaptive M-suspension is only $900, so I would expect the 2012 M-Sport to be similar to 2011 cost. BTW, additional features 2012 has over 2011 are:
Other differences are: For 2012, the 335i adds over 2011
For 2012, the 335i Premium package includes:

BTW, ZTP is pretty reasonable - about what I had hoped for.
In 2011, Nav was $2100. For 2012, the Tech Package is $2550 with HUD. Quite a bargain given that HUD is a $1300 option on the F10 (though you do get full blacked out instrument panel with that.) |
