I see your driving a 2013 F10, I'll assume you've got the CIC system and not the NBT.

The latest maps for NBT (NEXT) is 2015-1, for CIC (Premium) it's 2014-1. The maps be downloaded here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=893113

No kitster, I haven't updated my profile. Last week I picked up a October 14 manufactured F31. It has the "write-on" I-Drive controller so I'm assuming that's NBT?

Once I download the 21 files from the torrent do I just need to copy to a USB stick to begin the update?

Yes, you have the touch controller. The NBT was added first to the F31 way back in Oct12 (when I ordered my car). The touch controller was added later.

Once you have unzip/rar the files they will be in a single folder, copy the entire contents of the folder (but not the folder itself), to the root of a 32GB USB FAT32 stick. The car will tell you if the maps are newer than your existing ones.

However since you car is fairly new, it's worth sticking in the USB and see if it updates without a new FSC code. It was mentioned on another thread that if a new map was about to come out then BMW was adding the new FSC code to your car, so customers wouldn't moaning about not having an up-to date car.

If it fails/asks for a code then you will need to follow my guide to extract the DE file.

Thank you. I'm making the following assumptions:

1) The car is only a week old so will update without a code, OR
2) There is an FSC Code in the letter in the glovebox so that will work, OR
3) The dealer can sodding well do it at his expense since the car is just a week old!

Sounds like a good plan.

In the future if you decide to update the maps yourself. All the software E-Sys and psdzdata are free (ask from Shawn on the coding forum), the cable is about £10 off ebay.

I haven't updated any maps yet, but what do they give you? Is it just updated roads or do you get more Nav functionality?

Is there a middle way of doing this for those who don't want to download files with the risk of getting it wrong, but would prefer not to pay £200 to the dealer?

Does anyone sell the stuff you need for 2015-1 pro nav in a plug and play form, USB stick or DVD or whatever?

You'll need to connect to the car to get the file or you can pay someone on eBay (supply them your VIN) and they will generate the FSC code for you. But you will still need to download the files or get someone to send you the files on a USB stick.
Alternatively you could ask your local dealer for the mapping files but not the FSC code....not sure if that approach will go down well.

Dealers will only sell the whole update (map + code).

Nothing can really go wrong - any issues with the files and it won't upload to the car.

i bought OEM new map dvd’s only from my dealer a couple of years ago for my CIC e89 z4. the P/N is on real OEM, and there is a separate p.n for the FSC code.
the dvds (3 of) cost £18.


so it might be possible to get the dvds (now USB) from your dealer - get the p/n from real em & ask the parts department.

What AndyH said, if it cocks up during the upgrade it will just revert back to the previous map.

Since my coding cable is delayed in post is there any other way to check what maps the car is currently loaded. Being an October build you would hope its the most recent but be good to check

Go to navigation then press the options button, there will be an option to see version.
