340i Power Port Sockets
My 340i has three (3) Power Port Sockets, one under the glove box, one between cup holders in front, and one in rear between the air vents....
Does any one know if these all "power off" fully when you lock the car, after a certain amount of time? Or does it stay powered and if you have something plugged in, say a Radar Detector or Dashcam it will keep it going till car battery dies or does it cut off after a certain amount of time eventually? This question applies to all 3 power port sockets as, maybe some ports operate differently then the others? Thanks. |

Sure you don't have a fourth one in the trunk?

I must admit - thanks to this thread I now know I have a socket under the glovebox... wasn’t aware and it is well hidden! (Does yours have a dummy plug there?)
I also have one in the trunk, so it is not impossible that both come together, but I remember the one in the trunk as a stand-alone option. |

Interesting. I don’t have a dummy plug there.
Is it exactly the same as in the cup-holder’s socket and in the inter-seat console? Can others please also confirm there is a dummy plug there? I don't see one in the illustrated parts catalogue either. Last edited by Skyhigh; 07-04-2018 at 05:25 PM.. |

Out of four outlets total... Trunk has a flap cover. Ashtray area has a dummy plug. Under glove box has a dummy plug. Rear of center console does not have a dummy plug because I have a multi port USB plugged in there. In other words: My car has two dummy plugs total. Cant say for sure where they originally came from factory as I may have shifted them around at some point. |

Thank you for checking. That might be an explanation (that you have shifted them around at some stage). Does the dummy one under glove box stick out (visibly)?
My situation: Trunk - flap cover Ashtray - dummy plug Rear of center console - dummy plug Under glove box - nothing, empty socket The catalogue seems to confirm that, but I am not sure as it does not at all illustrate a socket under the glove box. Can someone else please also check and confirm how many dummy plugs there are in total?

P.s. what I find extremely peculiar is that the one under the glove box is not at all mentioned in the user manual as well! All other 3 are pointed out, even with illustration. 🧐
Does it work? 😀 |
