I'm another who very much likes the MP LSD on my 340. I don't really do any sort of drifting, what I like is having excellent traction no matter what the weather, and predictability when it does step out. You get that in spades with the LSD.
Overall the 340 is a very good car. Even with a remap, upgraded suspension and brakes, and the diff, it's certainly not a M4, but I don't need it to be. I'd say it's more like an Alpina, and that's a better day to day road car.

We’re 4 years into our f31 now and after a visit to the dealers for the mot, I really couldn’t see anything that would tempt me away.
Even the service advisor commented on how nice our car was and he sees them as the last of the ‘greats’ - straight 6, rwd. Added to that, I’ve only got 1 more punishing ballooned car tax to pay next year and then I’m onto normal rates - no-way I’m letting some scrote get that benefit after I’ve had to stump up for 6 years😂😂 |

Love my 340i and threads like this .It makes me feel good about the car. I've tried so hard to find something comparable but can't. It has all of the virtues you describe. I can fit my golf clubs in sideways without removing the driver..I can even leave the trolley in there and still fit 5 bags of shopping in the boot. Its done numerous tip runs (I know), is ideal for parking up in most places without attracting silly attention and more importantly goes like snot if you wish or will quite happily handle a trip to Tesco.
I'm getting 27mpg around town, well over 40 on a run. I had low coolant but a poster suggested putting grease around the cap (I used lithium grease) and no problem since. I do get itchy feet with cars however so lets see as I'll shortly be entering year 4 of ownership since new. Absolute stock, 18 plate, 13k on the clock. (yeah I know my rear reg plate is wonky:-) but any excuse for a pic. |

Imo i think the 40i engine is the sweet spot on the F series…. The only thing which puts me off is the lack of 4wd which they have now fixed in the G series.
Have had a 435d then an M4 the M are totally different… much harsher and louder and more an occasion - which is great for a blast around A roads - but as a DD you’re really better sticking with the 340/ 440. |

Got my 340i back in November 2015 so in about 4 months time I will have had it for six years!
Looking back over my car history, I've changed cars on average every 2½ years, probably because I got bored or just wanted a newer, faster version, so the fact I've kept this 340i for so long says a lot. Every time I drive it, it makes me smile. There's tons of shove, enough to keep me out of the way of most other cars on the road and there's an enjoyable soundtrack to accompany proceedings without going full artillery mode. MPPSK was added in late 2018 and was the icing on the cake but beyond that there's really nothing else I wish the car did/didn't do. If I had one criticism it's the harshness that the RFTs bring but for the most part they're 'OK' and they've got me out of sticky situations (4 punctures over the years), except for when the sidewall went, so I value their convenience. Like others, if the adaptive suspension ever gives up then I might look at alternative setups. Apart from the black kidneys I'm not really into changing the cosmetics of the car as it's never going to look stunning unless I go gansta. The biggest change for me over the last six years is that almost all driving in the 340i is now one or two up so it's arguably bigger than needed. That's due in part to the fact I'm very fortunate in having a Mrs who likes her cars too. She has a 3yr old S5 convertible and is adamant she's not going to get rid of it given Audi have decided to either downsize or go diesel with their S models, plus she's got an RX450h which we use for long journeys, icy conditions or carrying passengers in comfort. Then of course I've also got my motorbike. I'm actually very lucky in the transport stakes. An F82 M4 in SMB would look nicer, go faster and be more of a special occasion but I actually hanker after something more analogue, maybe an old Triumph Spitfire Mk IV but I'd get it as well as the 340i, not instead of

I've never done a track day, and to be honest I'm not sure I'd want to take my beloved 440i on one either, I'd be terrified of damaging it.
I'd rather learn in an ancient Clio or something first. This thread has at least convinced me the diff is something I will invest in, just not yet. Perhaps even before the MPPSK. Agree with the sentiments on M cars. I've driven an M2 Comp, M3 and 2 M5's (F10, F90) and loved them, but constantly had the thought that it's far too much power for the public road, so would rather find that "sweet spot" in the ~350bhp range, with sensible MPG, which is the 40i. I still find myself drooling over F90's on AT though.

In case you missed it, Londoner posted a track day suggestion:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1845233 I never tracked my car but Bedford seems pretty fool proof. Of course you can never guarantee other drivers will be sensible, but would be fun and I'm sure finding the limits in your car on a track day will make you feel safer behind the wheel when pushing it.
