Left Rear Brake/Turn Signal Faulty
Hey everyone,
I hope this is the correct place to post this. I currently have two warning on my BMW and I have a 2013 BMW 335i xDrive: Left rear brake light malfunction Left rear turn signal malfunction I took it into the dealership and they stated these repairs: "REPLACE BULB CIRCUIT AND TAILLIGHT CONNECTOR WITH REPAIR WIRE AND PIN (LEFT SIDE TAIL LIGHT CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT BOARD IS BURNT)" ...And they quoted me "$338.00" for this repair. Now my concern is not with the money but my question is: If I just buy a new taillight for the left side, would that be enough to fix all the issues? Reason I am asking is because my car is Pre-LCI and I was thinking about switching to the LCI taillights and the price to get a set of LCI taillights is about the same cost as they are quoting to fix a couple things in the old taillight. What do you guys think? Thanks everyone! |

IF it is in-fact the wiring that is messed up, changing the lights won't do anything. Can you disconnect the connector going to the tail lights and post it up here? I know BMW's tend to have connectors that melt where the attach to the tail light pins. To fix if you would need a new plug and splice in new wires/pins.
Please watch my vid and see how to remove the light which is very easy. If you skip to 4:30 you can see the removal of the light and how the connector looks.

Hey Solidjake,
Thanks for the reply and trying to help me out. I really appreciate it. Here are those photos I took (The connector and board both look burnt like BMW said): https://photos.app.goo.gl/D213JUZz8zhLsGtT8 Quote:

It looks like other people have had this same issue...
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1407774 Here are the replacement part numbers: Outer Tail Light Bulb Holder - Left: Mfg Part #: 63217313043 63-21-7-313-043 63 21 7 313 043 ECS Part # ES#2543118 REP. KIT FOR SOCKET HOUSING: Mfg Part # 61132359993 61-13-2-359-993 61 13 2 359 993 ECS Part # ES#3016510 So I guess my question now is, should I just buy the parts to fix this issue? Or would it be wise to buy the new connector and replace my lights with LED? Seems like LED would draw less power and never have this issue? |

When mine did this, I replaced JUST the bulb holder and it burned out again within two months.
My diagnosis: "Burnt pin in connector from wiring harness to rear lamp assembly bulb holder. Replaced connector and rear left bulb holder." Warranty paid $334.64 for this repair at the BMW dealership.
