MPPK 11/12 - 07/13 Installed and Short review

I got my MPPK installed today at Rockville BMW. Got them to install everything except rocker panels for $180 after a lot of issues with service advisors quoting me $500. Although the engine cover doesn't do anything but look nice I enjoy it. Also the new intake box lets you hear some swoosh and diverter valve which is a plus. Other than that the tune is great. Im still in the process of getting the computer adjusted to the tune but it has been great so far. I felt the increase in torque immediately after leaving the dealer. They also updated the software on my iDrive system while downloading the tune. At the end of the day I would recommend the MPPK as it is a great addition to a already amazing car and it doesn't void your warranty.

Congrats.. IMo this is the way the car should have come stock and then BMW should have made the power kit give something like 365hp/365lb-ft. Why not?

I talked to the head mechanic at my BMW dealer, and in his opinion, the modest power boost isn't worth the entry price. That's my take at this point as well, though admittedly I have not driven one equipped with MPPK.

I got it at almost half off so it was worth it for me but for MSRP I agree with the head mechanic.

Agreed it should come from the factory like this. But now I feel as if I can compete with the new 340i's. So I'm happy

So how would you describe the power increase? Responsiveness?

I drove a friends '14 335i with MPPK for a bit. While definitely noticeable difference from mine, it wasn't a OMG THIS IS FAST kind of thing.

Although I didn't hear it, he said there's a drone at certain speeds and he thinks its coming from the intake. Tried a different exhaust, but said it was till there.

How do you like the new intake sound? Notice any drone?

I'm on the fence, but if it was half off...

for his build year, it's worth the price, because the new/revised DME opens a world of tuning possibilities...

On comfort mode I notice I am tearing up my tires just turning into road ways. So the fun factor has gone up. But I haven't driven it over 100 miles so I will keep you all updated. So far I have noticed the torque difference, don't get me wrong its nothing crazy but it is apparent. It also pulls a lot faster past 50. I find myself going too fast more often now. And in sport or sport plus its very responsive.

...we've been through this.

There are three competing priorities with respect to engine tuning:

1. Performance
2. Reliability
3. Emissions/fuel economy

I have not run into this problem. But if I start noticing it ill let you know. I enjoy the new intake sound. You can hear the intake pulling air, swoosh and diverter valve when you let off of the gas. You could hear it before this upgrade but now its more noticeable especially with the windows down. But it isn't a BMS so don't expect it to be loud.

The power and sound kit for the 340i was just released (in Canada at least)

Do you have to buy it from the dealership to keep warranty? I just got my 435i, and would like a modest upgrade. I see sponsors selling them for 20% msrp, so will the dealership keep the warranty if I let them install but I buy from online?

What specifically are those new possibilities? Is this something that's applicable to anyone getting a new DME today, or more an MPPK related situation?

More of a he has a <2013 DME and flash tuning has been explored as thoroughly in that generation. The PPK DME essentially updates it.

No as long as it is installed at the dealership it will carry the warranty. So you can purchase it anywhere. When they install it keep the paper work and get them to sign the paper in the power kit that has the handler and date installed section for records.

My car is a lease and I'm contemplating in getting the mppk. Still banging my head for not getting it at port.

Once installed and the programming is set for that specific car, I won't be able to take it with me at lease end.

Don't know what will happen in 4yrs in terms of buyback or return lease. But the thought of losing the mppk with no value is a no go.

Let me know if I'm wrong.

If you're worried about warranty putting your money into other parts, then go for the MPPK, it won't owe you anything in four years. Otherwise spend the money on a DP and JB4.

Adding the MPPK will only help if you decide to return the car at lease end. It's an actual BMW add-on. I know with my car if I had added the MPPK and MPE it would have increased the car's residual. But I knew already the MPE was not the way I wanted to go so I didn't add it too.
