Buzzken downpipe install for F30 n47?

Is there any write up on this? Just ordered the Buzzken downpipe and Mission Performance tune, and did a bunch of searching but can't find anything about install instructions or help. I found some info on the 335d downpipe install but nothing for the 328d.

I don't think there is an official write up but it's pretty straight forward if you're experienced at wrenching. I'd recommend buying the Bentley manual for reference if you don't have a copy. A rough overview would be:

-Remove all of the protective plastic covers from the underside. Note: You'll need an anti-theft torx head set to remove them so don't start until you have one.
-Remove the protective metal plate over the bottom of the engine.
-Disconnect all of the plugs and sensors from the exhaust, disconnect and drop the exhaust, it is one piece from the DPF downpipe to the tips, there's 2 hangers in the rear of the vehicle.
-Remove all DPF bolts and sensors and unbolt and drop the DPF
-There's 2 coolant lines that run to the DPF, you'll have to loop those together
-If you're reusing the stock cat back, you'll need to cut the factory exhaust where it will meet up with your new pipe, so you'll need to lay them side by side and mark where to cut. The little roller chain style exhaust cutters work well
-From there you just reinstall everything, the front is a slip fit clamp, the rear is a band clamp. The exhaust work shouldnt take more than a couple hours. Putting all the covers back on is the most time consuming part if you're on a garage floor lol.

i've been wanting to do this but concerned about the transfer case handling more power (xdrive)

Mine is in the shop right now being replaced but it acted up under heavy acceleration and load, meaning the clutch packs began to slip, and I can't imagine more power would help anything

Piece of cake install. Took me 2 hours from start to finish and that included Turbo back replacement of exhaust. Plenty of room compared to 335d or x5d.

As far as xdrive. You have a ticking time bomb no matter if tuned or not. There is a new software coding coming out called Xdelete to disable the xdrive fyi.

Yeah, I saw that about the X delete software. Seems like an easy way to do it on the fly. Looks like it isn't going to come out for F 30 cars until spring. There is a post on here about FDL coding to make the car RWD, it is only one line, although it does trigger a dash light

I am currently on full 2wd with no lights (3 weeks now), but I'm exploring an easier way to do it. This method is good but still learning/testing if the best way.

Contemplating to pull the front axles and diff to see how mpg improves.

You should talk to the Mission Tuning/Performance guys in SoCal. They converted an F31 to RWD.

I've already got that down, but it may be that there are a few different approaches. Currently it is working very well as is. RWD by coding, and no lights. I am very handy at mechanical work, so that's not a worry for me.

The Xdelete seems to be a firmware hack that gets flashed. Interesting idea too. If they're flashing the transfer case module, I wonder how DSC would behave.
DSC depends on transfer case as part of traction control logic, when DSC is configured for awd. If xdelete flashes the transfer case module to stop actuating the clutches, DSC would still want to operate as on an awd car. They could possibly be messing with both.
I would love to know how to flash customized files and bypassing signature verification.

Changing the VO code for whole vehicle VCM to rwd was one of the options guaranteed to work, but it would want to reflash the dde. But I don't want to redefine and transfer the tune onto, just yet.

Parts came in yesterday, so hopefully if I have time and can get some help I'll swap them out this weekend. Instructions that came from Buzzken are pretty weak but looks self explanatory from what you wrote. Thanks for mentioning the safety torx cause that is something I don't have. Also going to get an exhaust pipe cutter, not sure if theres enough room for a sawsall but would also prefer a cleaner cut.

I can tell you from experience the sawzall doesn't play well with the stainless pipes. That was plan A... plan B was a trip to the auto parts store for the exhaust cutter. Takes a little elbow grease to cut by hand but perfectly clean cut!

Hey Tony, do our cars not have a typical catalytic converter but rather the SCR and DPF instead? I see no mention of the "cat" in the Buzzken advert.

Not sure about if our cars come with a cat like the gassers get. I always thought that's what the DPF and SCR were for. The cat is optional on the Buzzken kit. On the site it had a check box to get the cat or be aware of the fumes emitted if you don't. I opted not to have it cause weirdly I enjoy the diesel smell lol

The Buzzken down and mid pipe just arrived for my 328D. What should be done with the DEF system once the stock exhaust is removed? It doesn't appear to be easily unplugged like the various other stock sensors that are eliminated.

It gets unplugged at the urea injector and then you can just zip tie it up. Their is a cooling loop for the injector that has to be looped back into itself.

Lastly if you want to remove the entire DEF system there is some work to that but it isn't necessary. Just make sure and drain out the tank and rinse with deionized water if you can.
