First months ownership

So picked up my 340i nearly a month ago now and just thought I would see what people’s opinions are on my thoughts below

I had a secret mppsk as I thought it was just the exhaust as advertised but it turns out it’s running roughly 350-360 (good news) which is pretty quick and more than enough power, but I’m not keen on the note/tone of the exhaust. The cold start is already doing my head in I wish I get get rid of it. I would like a deeper more throaty tone so I was wondering if anybody knew if I could run a different (not standard) exhaust with the mppsk software, or will that ruin things? As I’ve heard something that the software and exhaust go hand in hand. Also looking at maybe getting a stage one and wanted to see what people’s thoughts are between the standard car vs stage 1 and the standard car vs Mppsk to see if it’s actually worth it. Would I need any other hardware before stage one or am I ok to jump straight in?

Cheers in advance

J

Stage 1 is just software so you're good to go. Some really good gains to be had, even over the mppsk tune. Aftermarket is the only way to remove cold start too.

If you added a sports cat you'd get the deeper sound you're after & could tune stage 2 for even stronger gains.

If I’m honest I’m being picky, I just don’t want it too loud, mine at the min pops and bangs it’s t!ts off in sport and sport plus mode. I thought a sports cat might resonate in the cabin too much. I’ve heard a Remus exhaust and liked the sound of that I think

Exhaust wise it's not going to get any better than the mppsk. Sport cat might make it a bit deeper but it's going to start getting silly loud. It's not a v8, it's an I6 turbo, it's limited by the design on the engine.

If you are thinking of getting the car mapped then just get the cold start mapped out, problem solved.

Oh excellent I wasn’t aware you could get the cold start mapped out, I didn’t want it to encounter issues but if I can do that then that’s my questions answered - brilliant thank you

Yeah I was looking at bm3 and was just trying to figure out everything I need for it because it seems the easier route to go down than going somewhere with a rr. I would like to see figures though as it would be nice for a definite over 400 bhp

So I’ve read a few posts where people have turned the cold start off via the bm3 and they have stated rough idle and not so nice engine start. So that’s that option out of the window, I’ve contacted a local ish mapping company that have some decent reviews and they say they can map out the cold start for me without any issues?!? Wondered if anyone else has heard of this?

Cheers

Cold start off has been fine for my car. It might be due to the adaptations or fuel quality that some people are having rough idle, or maybe a split PCV diaphragm.

I dont see how a mapping company mapping out cold start would be any different to BM3 doing it, as it just keeps the wastegate closed on startup rather than opening it to get the cat hot quicker.

With the likes of BM3 and MHD ect, you can also turn off the pops and bangs if you want to aswell.

I think you'll be over 400bhp on a BM3 map. No hardware changes for me, just a BM3 re-map and it'll do a 12 second dead 1/4 mile time on the dragy. Comparing against other RWD vehicles (and I'm a heavier touring) on here https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/carwow...aderboard#gref and you get a gauge as to where you sit.

Not an exact science obviously, but you get a decent idea!
