Coins/spare change noise

I'm experiencing a really frustrating noise like there's spare change somewhere in/out of the car. I cannot exactly replicate the noise in driving style but it's a lot quieter when I'm driving slower.

I've checked the vents under the seats and found coins. I checked in the seats and found coins. Still present noise.

I was told by someone that it's the top hats in the suspension shocks however that sounds a little long winded. Any ideas or has anyone had similar issue?

I had a noise like that once, it drove me nuts for months. It turned out to be a broken front coil spring.

I hadn't either. My lesson learned was that noise that seems to be coming from inside the car may not be. My first clue that it wasn't came from driving with the window open, which I almost never do.

Had a similar noise, noticeable when turning and accelerating slightly. Checked a number of areas, found the rear parking brake cable mount broken. Likely the same part as used near the back of the transmission. The rear one is easily found, just above the input flange of the differential.

Didn't think the brake cable could make such a noise as there isn't much to vibrate against in that area except for the clamp. Temporary fix was a tie wrap to an existing heat shield stud.

Worth a look!

This might be the issue. I had it for about a year. Drove me crazy.

I've been having this exact same issue for a couple of weeks, even taking it to the dealer seeing as it's still in CPO warranty, only to have them say them couldn't find the source, and were still looking.

Time to give them a call again with this information!

I'm having trouble identifying the sound he's referring to in the video lol, would have helped if he didn't hoon it! Literally sounds like spare change clanging together 8(

It seems you still have coins in the underseat vents. The BMW tech told me this trick, which worked, to get the objects out:
Face the car uphill near the top of hill on an empty street. Accelerate backwards down the hill and then slam on the brakes. Hopefully the objects will pop out.
You can find screen covers for the underseat vents on eBay, to prevent a repeat of this issue.

I'm not entirely convinced that it might not be something to do with the suspension. The person above mentions a broken spring or top hats that need replacing. I know a hill nearby so I think I'll take your approach and provide feedback tomorrow!

Had a similar noise, was making me as crazy as everyone else. Wasn't a broken coil - because they had just recently had to replace one. But... turns out that a broken off piece of the old coil had fallen into the trough of whatever the piece is called underneath the coil. No easy way to see it, no easy way to find it, except by just feeling all around while it was on a lift.

That's what the shop did, and found a 3/4" piece of steel coil that was rattling around in there. Worse at speed, worst over bumps. Took it out, noise gone.

Hope you find your noise source. That kinda stuff makes me nutty too.
