Thanks all for the input.

I will come back here and update after I've attached the badge (with or without the M)

This thread will go on forever.. Not much lasts longer than a ///M badge thread...

If you want the new style badge font. You cant cut the ///m part of the sticker and just have the 340i. Know some1 who done this.

The whole ///m badge on non m cars isnt helped by bmw putting ///m badges everywhere on m sports.

Merc even do on amg lines. I actually think its ok lol. Yours is a 340i so sort of ok. Whats bad is ppl putting m badges on the rear of 116d

It’s not a full fat M, however the engine and suspension have had input from M division on the M340. Hence the extra 50+hp.
The engine is just a slightly different map and the input on the suspension is so extensive the car still leaves the factory on run-flat tyres - IMO you're just swallowing BMW's marketing if you think the M-division had much of an influence on the development of the M340i.

Not at all. This was no influencing factor in my decision on car choice. I only became aware after stumbling across it after I purchased. As I said it’s not a full M for sure and more M lite; in the same way that the 340i m sport trim is no M lite!!

I debadged my 335d as I prefer the cleaner look & the lesser attention it receives. Badges are generally labels for others to see in more detail what they are actually looking at.
A false label could be as misleading as a night out in Thailand with a gorgeous "girl"

I certainly wouldn't put a badge on that doesn't fit the car. Each to their own though, whatever makes you happy.
But I also don't get the debadging unless you are driving a bottom of the line car.
Black badges look more subtle than silver and hardly an eyesore

I thought the suspension in a M340i is the same as a 320d with possibly just some spring rate changes for weight differences? The other moving parts are the same.?
I doubt the engine has been breathed on by M Division either. If it has, I'd be very surprised.

I'd be surprised if the M Division had input on the 'M lite' engines, or suspension. I'm happy to be corrected though.
So-called 'M Lite' is something that the owners/fans have dreamed up.

BMW hav'nt helped themselves with adding ///M badges everywhere.
MSport is essentially a trim level, nothing much more. Same as R line, S line, AMG line.

The model designation (40i, 35i etc etc) is all BMW needs to distinguish those models as something a little more serious, along with the twin exhausts.
If they really needed something else, a little 's' at the end maybe?. 340i s 135i s. There was no no need to recycle the ///M bdage in my opinion. Giving further temptation for blaggers to claim their car is a mini M3.

I've never driven an F31 340i M-sport but out of interest why do you say one of those is no M-lite? The reason I ask is I've had several M-sport BMW's and, in terms of how the car feels to drive, I'd say my G21 M340i is very similar to one of those (and certainly much closer to them than it is to the only M-car I've owned). I'm afraid I just struggle to see what the M-lite brand brings to the party, at least where the M340i is concerned....

Can't tell me that isn't a clean looking rear end
Also more than happy for someone to think it's a bottom of the line car, makes it more enjoyable!

The very boring tech manual refers to the M340i engine as by “M division” as shown to me by the service tech.
He also implied M input allegedly included chassis tweak in the rear suspension linkage is different as well as having M diff fitted, different damper rates.
Just relaying what I was informed.

This thread has persuaded me to swap the badges over on my cars.
My 440 will now be a Z4 and vice versa. I will bet no-one will ever comment on it, or notice, or care!

I can also put the "S-drive" badges from the Z4 on the 440i as that won't be lying!

Never understood why E89 Z4s have "S-Drive" badges. They never made a 4WD Z4 so sort of irrelevant IMHO!
