Mewant M-Sport Cover
My M-Sport wheel has been through a lot the past 80k miles. It was a little worn when I got my car at 35k miles. Since then its gotten worse. I tried a method of restoring the color by applying leather dye on the wheel that was posted on the forum. The results were ok...but didnt satisfy me.
So immediately after I went to purchase a Mewant steering wrap. I was a bit intimidated because I have seen others try stitching the wrap themselves and their leather looked a bit wrinkly. I tried it out anyways. It was a bit scary, but I pressed on. The results were AWESOME. Especially for someone with no experience with stitching. It took maybe about 5-6 hours. Im sure with experience it would have gone a lot faster. |

Not a fan of the top piece with the m colors but the rest of it looks great. Looks thick (no pun intended)

I was iffy about it too, but I have the M-Package so i don't feel cringy about the stripes. It was the best option out of all the available wraps in my opinion. I know it looks thicker but the added thickness is negligible. It feels a lot better too, especially running my hands over the perforations. |

Looks nice, I was considering one as well, but having to sow/stitch the entire things is a real turn off.

That was definitely something that made put this off for a while. Its not that hard though its just the repetition of going through the thread that makes it tedious. |

I did their carbon/leather kit. Took like 6 hours. As mentioned above it's not "hard" just tedious and annoying but I'm definitely impressed for $50 I'm glad I did it.

The Mewant's look very promising. Looking at their various products, some are "genuine" leather and some are listed as "artificial" leather. Anyone have any experience with both, to compare one against the other?

It's actually pretty easy. Disconnect the battery and put two small screwdrivers in the holes on the steering wheel and it just pops right out. Takes literally 2 minutes

Hows it holding up. I've been watching this for awhile on my eBay. I've just been hesitant because of the stitching ordeal.
I'll probably get the same one you got imquittingthecult |

I got the same one for about seven months. Everything looks nice as new. But I always park my car in the garage which could avoid a lot of sunshine. The stitching is not tricky but is kinda boring and it is easy to misalign the 3-color M-sport badge on the top. I tried several times but still have to skip one spot to have a good alignment. A lot people asked me about where I got my steering wheel and it looks really high quality and I really like that 'thick' feeling.

Indeed, wrap looks tight. Just curious, do you have a heated wheel, if yes, can you still feel the heat through the additional layer of leather? Also, did you remove the control buttons in order to tuck all pieces in, and do all the bits and pieces of leather tuck in on the backside too (might u share pics of the back?).
Thanks! |

I just installed the full alcantara one this weekend. It's really not that bad once you get in the rhythm. I ended up pulling the steering wheel to get the back side of the spokes tucked correctly. I had it slightly misaligned and was afraid I screwed it up, but it still came out really well. I wish I had done it sooner (I got it for Christmas).

This looks really nice, I'm thinking about doing it...but I'm undecided if I want to go all-leather or get one that has suede on part of it. Can anyone who has spent time with a suede steering wheel weigh in? Does it get icky and hard to clean?
Also I wish they had an option with just a red stripe on top instead of the tri-color. I have the M-Sport as well but my interior is red leather and I'd rather just keep it simple, but so far I haven't found such an option. EDIT: Found one with just a red stripe on top and suede sides...considering that one. Last edited by rogersmj; 02-03-2020 at 08:39 PM.. |

I've had suede/alcantara wheels for years. I know people say it wears fast, but it really doesn't. It just gets dirty. And it's super easy to clean with the right stuff. I've been using Sonax Alcantara Cleaner, I've had a Momo Monte Carlo on my Z for 2 years, daily driven, and it still looks and feels new. I only clean it once a month and it takes 15 minutes, 10 of which are letting it soak in and do its thing. You let it soak in, then rub it gently with a clean, wet microfiber cloth, then let it dry. Good as new.
It remains to be seen how it'll work on the Mewant cover, but it was also able to bring a 20 year old suede Momo Mod31 back to life, so I'm at least optimistic. Here's mine: |
