Interior ambient light

Just wanted to share something cool I found on YouTube.

This is for cars that have the lighting package.

As you see in the video you can find the link to the 3D print in the description.

I downloaded it, sent it off, total price $40.00 CAD.

Should be picking up the pieces in a day or two.

Enjoy

I placed my order with www.zed3d.ca I went with them since they are local that way I could just pick it up, however they do deliver.

Process was super simple, inserted the file and got an instant quote.

He only put up a file for the f30.

Looking at Pics I'm pretty sure the trim piece is the same.

Trying finding the part# and compare the front doors

I imagine the piece itself shouldn't change too much. I just know that my doors are longer than an F30 (but I don't know by how much). I would also be interested to put these on my rear armrests since that's where the ambient lighting is located on an F32, but the curvature of them would make using these pieces impossible.

Sorry I was looking at the wrong Pic, I suppose you could probably fit the piece up until the molding starts curving.

You could probably pull it off if it was made with a material that is more flexible, like a silicone strip.

Hm, that is a good point. I guess I just need to find a 3d printer near me then and see if its doable with silicone.
These pieces simply act as a diffuser for the light, right? Do you feel like installing these pieces actually make the cabin brighter? I've been considering changing the LEDs in my doors since my car has really dim door LED lighting, but I do not want to take apart the doors and this might just be the solution i was looking for!

I see on 3dhubs.com they can do TPU, which is flexible. My question however is... what color were the strips? Were they transparent?

Yes mine are clear, if it doesn't give the correct effect I will give it a light wet sand

Cool. thanks man. I'm going to try and edit the stl file to that it's long enough for an F32.

Hello to all,

So I did the install today, super simple.

The file includes 3 pieces, basically one door, you'll need to ask for 4, by mistake I took 5.

For the perfect look you can also see if you can get a piece that is 20 inches per door.

I might just get them done and sell them.

Can anyone post a daylight picture, to see the looks? Does it hide completly or does it look like somethink is sticking out?

Thank you

Here is a Pic of the piece during the day light.

Maybe I'm just a perfectionist but the little line in between the pieces annoys me.

I'm going to try to get it done in one solid piece.

Agree the break lines between the pieces would annoy me too. One piece would be perfect, but the shape of the door may not a accommodate a straight piece? Also perhaps extend it a little to cover the whole length of door if possible?

A straight piece would work. The door has has a slight curve to it, but the material has enough flexibility to handle it.

I just took the file as is, I have no experience in 3D printing, but I'm guaranteed if the length is modifies it would look perfect
