Knocking Noise BMW F30 328i 2012
I'm new here and new to BMW. Purchased this 2012 328i over 2 years ago. Recently noticed a knocking sound at idle. Car seems to be running just fine, but it's louder than before. There's also some vibration at idle. Spark plugs were changed around 45,000 km.
Car is a 2012 with about 75,000 km serviced BMW and local shops where oil changes were done every 10,000 km or so. If anyone could provide some insight, that would be appreciated before I take it to the dealership. I'm having trouble uploading a video, will try again a little later. Thanks in advance. |

Works now.
That's not the "knock" that I was expecting. It's more of a rubbing sound if I had to choose one word to describe it. Wishy washy? Like a vaccuum sucking up water. Pretty odd, but I really don't know. I thought it was going to be a knock like rod knock, but I don't think I could give you a confident answer. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Is it RPM dependent i.e. when you rev does it get louder/faster? Anything else dependent like it only happens with A/C on, or in drive, when the car's warm or cold?

Hello,
Sorry I'm late to this post. Curious if you found a solution? My 2013 does the same. Just changed spark plugs. The ship said nothing about the sound other than change the plugs. Definitely sounds like it's from the right side. Almost like an air leak. My car shutters when shifting into drive or reverse. And the noise gets worse. After driving it for a while it isn't so bad. Please let me kno! |

Recently i have an oil sludge issue , that my car failed to crank. My 3rd cylinder piston jammed, and damaged the crankshaft for cylinder 3 scratched , the rod bearing is damaged. Basically a full overhaul job , cleaning sludge , timing chain and etc
