Sounds like you already love your new car.

For me, there's something wrong about the rear end. Looks too bulbous and top heavy. And that off centre number plate would drive me mad!

That looks so much better than the disco sport.

Looks great and a not as common as the german suv counterparts.

Impressive car and spec, congratulations.

Least you've gone for the correct engine I read the other day on the S3 forum someone had swapped their S3 for a Disco 2.0, each to their own an all that but a 2.0 in a big lump like that must be sluggish as hell.

I also liked the offset number plate on the original Disco. However, then it was needed because of the shape of the rear window, i.e. it served a functional purpose. I hate the way they've done it on the new model as it's a little too contrived in an attempt to pay homage to the original model.

If I had a new Disco, I'd definitely go for that Startech plate conversion, makes its look more balanced. Someone near us has that part on theirs (although they've also wrapped their vehicle in Yellow so they lose points from me for wrapping it!).

The 2.0 has 300 bhp, so won't be much different perfmance wise. Just not the style of delivery for wafting I guess.

Although, the XC90 is only available in 2 litre from, and they've sold plenty.

I was in an evoque 300 a couple of weeks back, very underwhelming performance, I can only imagine the disco sport would be the same if not worse.

I agrees and I don't think stressed two-litre fours really are the best solution in SUVs.

In the discovery, the SD4 is 240bhp versus the 306 of the SD6, which doesn't sound too bad. 8.3 seconds 0-60 plays 7.0 - again, sounds liveable.

Then you get to torque and suddenly its 430 vs 700. THAT you would notice.

Really pleased how it's turned out. Hadn't seen this colour with these wheels and had not seen the interior colour at all, but so glad that we picked it.

Can't wait! BUT, I had three winters of no snow here when I had RWD and winter tyres, followed by three winters with snow when I had RWD and summer tyres. We can all guess what comes next, now that I have 4wd and all-seasons!

Always quite liked the wonky arse on a Disco. I still remember my old man having one of the first Discos in the UK, way back when. I arrived home from school to it. It had a hydraulic step under the rear door for the bench seats. Anyway.
Nice, that first Disco really started something. Amazing how small it looks now, like everything from back then.

I told my salesman and his manager that there was no way I would even consider a Disco, due to that rear. Then I drove one... I've warmed to it now and see it as distinctive and wouldn't want to Velar it up with a startech kit. Still wish they had worked with the Disco 4 theme though, square plate and vertical lights would surely work better.

Yes, the engine is brilliant and I'm pleased that the dropped the SD6 in last year (306bhp versus the predecessor TDV6's 260-ish).

It has got more contrived over the years. D1 (and D2 iirc) had a spare wheel mounted on the back, hence had the stepped rear window. D3 and D4 started the contrivance by keeping the stepped window only in an attempt to pay homage to the D1. But they had a split tailgate. D5 loses that too. Agree, it's contrived, but that's styling these days. I originally thought I would want Startech, but as above I now quite like the original looks and making it look like a Velar-in-a-vice appeals less.

Here you go. These have posted in reverse order on the app.

Bottom picture shows the left buttons as they are when switched on. When pressing Menu, the middle now shows OK (instead of Menu). Having pressed that, and entered a sub-menu, the directional buttons are now four straightforward buttons.

Not sure if the right button cluster plays the same tricks or is always set for cruise control/driver assistance/heated wheel.

Congrats Rich, although can't believe you moaned about 'only' a 5 month wait...

That will make the perfect family car. Space, practical and safe. Perfect

Haha, yes I shouldn't call that a long wait

The dealer was also very good. Lent me a car when I needed one. Then, when there was an extra 48 hour delay at the end, they asked what they could do for me and agreed to the £200 sets of second and third row sun blinds that I requested. Excellent service, especially bearing in mind that every delay was out of the dealer's hands

One week in, some of the nice little features in the cabin of the D5...appeals to the car feature geek in me.

Big cupholders under a sliding cover. Then slide the cupholders back to reveal the huge storage space underneath, plus one of the 9(!) USBs.

Climate control knobs that double for the cooling and heating functions, push them to access those settings.

HUD displays a Land Rover logo when the engine is switched off (not a great pic!).

Press a button and the entire climate control panel drops down to reveal yet more storage.

Clear exit monitor in the rear seat door handles. Lights up to warn passengers not to open the door if a vehicle is approaching.

And in the boot..

Push button controls for the folding 2nd and 3rd rows, air suspension and the plank.

Lidded storage for the 3rd row passengers, more USBs in there.

The plank, which is nice to sit on for changing boots etc and holds 300kg (I'd slightly prefer the split tailgate of the X5 though).

And a non-standard BMW motorsport umbrella, a freebie from my last purchase!

That is some technology in action. Clearly know what the sector want and need and deliver against it.

Sometimes you just cant beat the practicality of a SUV....

I highly doubt I would have it if it wasn't for your RRS post, Chris - when you first bought it, I read the post and thought what a car and deal!

I'd set aside a lunchtime to check out the XC90. Dealership experience was so underwhelming and disinterested that I had time to spare. Remembered your post from a day or two before and googled the local LR dealer, to find it was about 500yds away. Sales experience and the car (RRS) blew me away from the beginning, although I told the salesman in no uncertain terms that i wasn't going to entertain even looking at a Discovery that must have been around April or May 2018!

Cheers again

OK lets take the tech discovery up to a next level.

Do you know how to disable the tilt alarm Rich if travelling on a ferry?

To be honest, I thought it had enough wading depth to get across the Channel?

But now I have googled and found the 'disable alarm for one cycle' in the manual.

Take it that one caught you out Chris?

With the folks being back home on the Isle of Man, looking up how to do this ranks unusually high for me.

As you might know on a BMW its 2 presses of the look button and you see a different flashing pattern on the alarm red light under the mirror. Alarm is armed but not the motion or tilt sensor. Eg. no embarrassing tannoy call outs on the ferry

On the LR/R is via the App, there is a toggle to enable/disable.
