Let’s be honest mine wouldn’t either if a certain life event hadn’t resulted in a bit of a windfall a few years ago. That effectively got invested and that helps pay now, not that my late wife would approve! Actually she would as kids still come first - one going to Disneyland Paris for little ones birthday courtesy of gramps, other went to Barcelona for weekend on Dad to ease my conscience...

Once I stripped out all the ones that had excessive expensive extras that meant they were too much, I had a choice of white, black, or grey.... so grey it was even if it is nearly black!

Congrats on your purchase, I'm sure it will be an awesome car.

Although you've not seen it, I guess you've test driven one?

It’s so much more exciting spending loads of money without trying first....

No test drive. Not even sat in one - except a 530d. Sure if I don’t like it someone will take it off my hands!

Hadn’t driven the Audi before I bought that either....

But sometimes you just have to tick that box on your bucket list when an opportunity arises that may never come round again... so I have signed up to come back to BMW with an M5....

Collection sometime in next 10 days and I might actually remember to take a picture or two this time...

Singapore Grey, Black interior, comfort pack, performance exhaust, M seat belts, and a drivers assistance pack and bi colour wheels. That is all I wanted (and all I was prepared to pay for!).

Slightly more than budget but to be honest not out of the park more.....

Slightly excited / nervous / amazed.
Amazing. Given we live just a few miles apart, I am coming for a ride-along!

Stick me on it as well and I will let you borrow the Z4. Just don't expect the M5 back if I really like it

Also local... group collection trip?!

On a more serious note, congratulations on securing the new car. I know how much you've genuinely enjoyed the SQ5 ownership experience so this must be an itch that really did need scratching. Glad you're now getting to do exactly that.

And remember... only regret the things you don't do in life, not the things you have. I get the feeling you certainly won't be regretting this!

Thanks. I have always wanted an M car (bought my wife a private plate in 1995 that started M30 so I could put it on an M3!) but looked at the M3 when I bought the Audi and thought it might be a bit raw and racy for me now (and rwd so I would probably go through a hedge backwards). The M5 is my dream car.

No regrets. Life too short. If it doesn’t work move on!

Congrats - as many have said here it’s their dream car and I am in that bracket.

Since the late 90s with the e39 (friend of mine bought one) no car has had such reverence with me. especially with the rivalry with the e class and jag at the time - tiff from top gear performing ballet with m5. Since then as a ‘joke’ I have been putting it on my Xmas lists
I know if I won the lottery it would still be my go to car.

Hopefully the day with come soon when I can get one! With 2 kids at nursery (1.3k a month for 3 days a week! With all the govt help) I was looking at the deal too - but it will be a while yet for me

Enjoy!!

I am finally reaping the benefits of starting early! Married at 24, 2 kids by 29 and a bit, at times when younger didn’t have the proverbial pot, and at times significant credit card debts.. we didn’t have nursery fees as my wife didn’t go back to work.

Now I am 55, kids can keep themselves, I am only paying for half a house, I only have to keep one person and I get a decent London wage. You will get there one day...in 2012 I had a Volvo S60 with 150k on the clock!

Just keep the dream...

Awesome cars. On my dream car list too. Enjoy.

If only they did a touring version - I still wouldn't be able to afford one!

I only have one kid at the moment, 3 days at nursery and 2 at pre school @£800 a month takes a lot of fun £££ away, all worth it though!

However come Sep 2020 and having a spare £800 a month sounds like a weekend car to me

The most important 3 words in that.... “at the moment”... I would stash it away to lesson the pain of the next one!

Grandson number 1 starts school in Sept 20 - aged 4 years and 1 week... grandson number 2 will by then be 10 months old, and starting nursery in Dec assuming my daughter goes back to work...
