Hi All,
I thought i would share with you a recent modification that i Undertook, If it interests anyone i could do a DIY thread on how to achieve it. I laid in bed late at night thinking of how cool a friend of mines mercedes interior looked with all of the ambient lighting installed, I wanted an inexpensive way of adding interior ambient lighting to my dash without too much hassle. I have the ambient lighting pack on my vehicle but it only gives a very dull effect and compared to other cars was a bit rubbish. I managed to pick up a cold light on amazon for around £9.99. This looked almost identical colour wise as the red/orange lights already in the vehicle. My car is a 2015 BMW f32 435i coupe. Here are some pics, Let me know what you guys think- My Dash before modification is also in there. However this item is most similar. My strip shipped with both a USB adapter and a cigarette lighter adapter. Available In red, blue, ice blue and white. has lasted months without issues. I normally connect my phone via Bluetooth so have no need for the usb in centre console. routed the strip from the centre console usb outlet through the centre dash, carefully cable tied around gear stick, up through the drivers side (uk), right hand side and along under to greet the dash trim. The strip has a lip which can tuck under most of the dash for a snug fit however to reinforce it I laid a thin layer of double sided adhesive strip to the underside of the dash trim. When connected to the usb power outlet it's great. I've found it stays on for max 30 seconds after the car locks. When you unlock the car a surge of power goes through the usb so it actually flashes which is cool. As soon as the door opens the strip lights up fully providing a pretty cool effect. If a DIY is needed I'm willing to do one if enough people are interested. Enjoy! Last edited by adz_cyp; 11-06-2019 at 08:24 AM.. Reason: pics didnt upload |

So you bought the red wire, and not the orange?

Hard to tell what's going on in the product link, is there a strip of tape attached to the el-wire? I've used tons of el-wire in the past but it was only just a single wire. What is that on the side? And how did you attach it to your car?

No tape attached, more like an edge for tucking into tight spots, i used the edge for tucking where the gap was small enough for it to stay secure. For areas where the tuck would not work i used double sides tape.

I am using the USB in the centre console so should be fine. I did not cut excess but rather rolled it up into a spot under dash where it is hidden.

Would love to see a DIY on this. If you can take some pictures of how you wired it, that would be great! Also wondering what length you needed to cover the dash the way you did.

I bought the "Red" color from the link. It's actually orange and matches up almost perfectly with the OEM orange on my 2015 335i. Once I get some double-sided tape, I'll take some pics and post the results. It looks great in the dark, but the orange strip doesn't really go with anything during the day. I'm going to try and find a way to hide most of the strip so only glow is seen at night
