Hey guys, I've got a N20 2016 428i F33 and I've installed my MST intake for a day now and only till a couple hours ago my car shakes, shudders and vibrates a lot in the interior when WOT or just driving and accelerating. I took the intake off and installed the OEM airbox and I am still experiencing the same issue. The interior literally shakes. The shaking does not occur in neutral or park. I don't feel any power loss. What could the issue be? Mods I have are:
- VRSF ceramic coated catless dp
- GFB DV+
- BM3 Stage 1 93
- xHP Stage 3
- MST intake (removed after less than 24 hrs of installation)

Car has done 70,000kms or 43,500miles

Thanks guys, any help would be of assistance!

So it doesn't do it in park or neutral, so not when the car is moving.
The engine is fine and when you rev it nothing.

Agreed with Chowser - it sounds like a driveline or wheels thing.

But easy one, check your wheel nuts. They might be loose. Especially if any of the wheels have been off the car lately. Easy to check. Take foot, and push against the tire.

Ask me how I know this! :P

Yep. I just swapped tires recently and forgot to check the lugbolts after 25 miles and got a vibration. Two of them were loose. Tightened everything back up and all is normal. I'll check again after work and hopefully that'll be enough.

I actually keep the torque wrench in the car now ever since some a$$hole loosened the nuts on my last car at work and two sheared off before I figured out what the problem was.

chowser51 - Ah the car life! Me too!

I dropped $$$$ on my set of BC Forged wheels and while working on my suspension, I forgot to torque one of the wheels. Let's just say ONE wheel on the set slips on easier than the others now!

And yep, I keep a breaker bar and 17mm socket in my car too!

Hey all! Wheels seem fine? I got tyres changed a while back and BMW did the alignment more than 10,000kms ago. Some people have advised me to clean the MAF. I have done this just waiting for it to dry. Will also reset engine adaptations, see if that changes anything.

bmwaddictt - Hmmm... ok so wheels are out. Only occurs on WOT/Acceleration... turbo spinning. No engine or fault codes? Or lights on your instrument panel?

Literally 0 codes as crazy as it sounds. You are free to read my logs that I took with back on stock tune?

bmwaddictt - I'm not enough of a Bootmod3 expert to spot issues off a data log.
The most perplexing part is that the car runs fine at speed and only is an issue when you accelerate.

If I "spitball" ideas they would be:

1. Drive shaft - will drive OK, but will vibrate at higher RPMs - but 43k miles isn't high enough mileage for a failed joint or a weight falling off short of bad factory install/work.

2. Ignition coils - known to fail, but it would at least light up some warning lights. From what I recall, under load is when the coils would traditionally start to hit/miss.

3. Bad ground - basically a loose wire or connection. But you'd get warning lights.

4. Fuel pump failing - which might be more feasible as acceleration makes demands on the pump. But this would flip warning lights.

5. Transmission slipping - Maybe redflash the transmission to stock.

6. Code hiccup - maybe reflash the ECU to stock.

Caveat, I'm an Ex36 guy (having broken about every part on that model after track days, stupid decisions, and driving like an idiot), so I'm thinking all the low-level mechanical stuff. I've only been on the F3X platform that last 3 years. The extra layer of software is both a bane and blessing!

Things you can try:

On a safe road, get up to highway speeds and if the vibrations/shaking are there, put it into neutral coast. If the vibrations/shaking is still there, it's your wheels/suspension.

Check your plug gaps. You could be missing under load. The only way to really test load at a standstill is to engage but release on launch control.

As mentioned above, maybe flash to stock first to see if any of it is there. Good luck!

Actually, an easier way is to put the car in EcoPro with coast enabled. This will allow you to get to speed (slowly) and then coast when your foot is off the accelerator pedal.

hey all! I have just got the car back from BMW. The issue was the rubber grommet that holds the exhuast up had degraded overtime due to a incorrect installation of the catless dp. The dp apparently was fitted too up, eventually causing rubber grommet to wear out.

As you can see from the photo attached, this metal piece is slanted to the side and under loan moves up and down and as a result shakes the interior. This apparently is supposed to be centred in the middle. I have purchased a new connection piece which was $60 AUD and am getting the dp refitted soon.

Thanks for everyones help! Glad it wasn't anything super pricey like the tranny!
