They do actually. And that's why they dust more. Softer (ie dusty) pads have a lot of bite. Harder (not dusty) pads don't bite as well. The more aggressive pads resist fade better when hot as well.

My former brembos, willwoods, and JB big brakes on my previous cars never squealed this "consistently", even with quite aggressive pads.
The simple fix is a couple dabs of brake grease on the backing plates. I'm not sure why BMW didn't do it right out of the gate, but that will do the trick. So will tapering the leading edges of the pads. I've personally never had "street" pads resonate like this. But I've had track-only pads do it plenty of times. Of course those tend to only last a couple of days so I never bothered to lube them.

Mine squealed maybe 3 times early on. In all instances it was very light braking and the brakes were essentially cold (while taking it easy around Germany and Austria). I think if you're experiencing this squealing you're just plain driving the wrong car. Especially if you are upset about the dust. Just stick with less performance-oriented models and have the dealer slap a body kit on for you...and have them swap on a nice quiet and clean set of the more pedestrian "stock" pads.
I don't know what exactly you mean by that.

Either deal with the squealing or just don't buy/drive an M-sport 335 at all? Is that what you meant? Like squealing brakes are somehow "part of the package" thing.

Just got my car back. Breaks don't squeal anymore, they "W/T to R&I All Brakes & Lubricate Pins/Pads" Whatever that means.

My squealing issue appears to have been resolved. Service chamfered the brakes, and squealing disappeared for about 150 miles, came back with a vengeance for 40 miles or so, and now seems to have mostly disappeared. Also, my local dealer is apparently performing the same fix before delivering new cars, so BMW finally seems to acknowledge what appears to be a rather widespread issue.

I had squealing brakes for the first 500 km then never again. Cold weather, short trips and nothing. Just seemed to resolve all of its own.

Took delivery last week. Brake noise is definitely annoying, but only when brakes are applied gently at very low speeds. I'm enjoying the car too much to be bothered. I'm waiting until the car has been properly broken in, and if it's still there I'll deal with it then.

Anyone think of just having them swap out the M Sport pads for the Sport pads? I don't care if the M Sports are better. I will never realize whatever potential performance advantage they have over the Sport brakes, so who cares.

Funny b/c I would read these posts about dust and squealing and think that people were being too picky.

I took delivery a week ago today and the squeeky brakes are so freaking annoying. And the dust is like I've never seen before. Like you Korallrot, I'll wait a month or so and if its still there, I'll address it then.

Haha i was reading the same thing and now im like damn these are noisy and dust like its the end of the world. I really dont want to take it in to BMW unless they finally have a fix, I can put the grease myself im waiting to see if they might change the pad material for less dust and noise.

Being a Tech but for a different auto maker i can tell you it will be a waste of time until something updates or some special "grease" comes out.

Either chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the pads or just lube up the backing plates and guides with caliper grease. That'll take care of the noise.

Do you think going out and doing a proper brake bed-in will help?

1400 miles, squeeling gone but after say an hour or two of driving it comes back. I will hang on for another 1500 miles and take it in if its still there

I look into the squealing at my last service appointment and all that they "were allowed to do" was burnish the pads. Which has only seemed to make it louder so far... I am going to give it a few more weeks and see if it gets better before I complain again.

It seems to be a general problem with recent Bimmer. I had the same problem with my X1 and they changed all pads and front rotors; but the problem came back...cheap pads!!

At just shy of 1k miles my squealing has disappeared. Not sure what did it. Break-in? Weather is exactly the same and I didn't alter my driving style at all. Whatever it was, I'll take it.

Dealer did some magic to fix the squeal before I picked up the car. Brakes squeak a few times here and there. It isn't very consistent, though only at lower speeds and gently applying brakes. But it doesn't do it all the time. I only have 200 miles, so I'll give it some time to see how it pans out. Might just need some breaking in.

Been quite some time now and I'm disappointed by the lack of a proper fix to this issue on the part of BMW. So far the fixes for most people have been temporary at best - the brake squealing eventually comes back. These band-aid solutions should be unacceptable to all of you (myself included).

So do we just have to live with this brake squealing permanently? Will BMW be able to address this once and for all? I guess the answer is... "who knows".

Thank you BMW.
