Exact rates vary according to location but 7.5p and 30p ish for me.
If you let OI control the charge they set a schedule that suits them and you - so if you dont need full 6 hours for car they will do it at time that suits them (you still get all electric in those 6 hours at cheap rate)
if you need more than 6 hours worth to achieve desired charge level they will do it beyond the hours and extend the cheap rate for all your electric use to this period.

If you decide unexpectedly at 3pm you need your car and bump charge it that will be peak rate...

Think that covers it.

ETA either the charger or the car has to be compatible with octopus
Exactly this, well said. This is how it's done and I'm doing it via the granny charger.

The other thing to consider is that you can time your appliances to go on when cheap rates start

Average washing machine is 2.5kwh and a 3 hour cycle is 7.5kwh.
Similarly dishwasher and tumble dryer would be 4.5 and 7.5 kwh.
So around 20kwh for the 3 over a 3 hour cycle
At 30p per kwh it is £6
At 7p per kwh it is£1.5
That's a £4.5 saved
If you need to run these daily like we do it's £135 saving per month even before petrol station bills are considered.

Edit I may have overestimated savings as not an expert on appliances and their kwh but the bottom line is there is a saving to be made

Its gone a bit hay wire for me since a power cut - sends me schedules when the car is nowhere near home and not plugged in> So just using the standard 6 hours which to be honest is more than enough 99% of the time...

All correct for the info from the other chaps. TBF I didn’t realise it would let you really go to town with a granny charger for say 14 hrs and all at the 7.5p immense!

There is real value too in running everything in the house at a lovely 7.5p rate while the car charges also. Even better if on a Granny!!

One final recent mini perk, they ask you if you want to opt in on use less electrons during their anticipated busy hours. This isn’t that often, once a week or such.

Now here’s the point, I make absolutely zero effort to do this, use less, but have always opted in.

In November I was out shopping and getting tea at a few of these times, and the points added a nice £15 credit to my account. I just pressed a button to opt in 😂😂

Bear in mind my monthly average bill is £102 and a referral every now and then and these Octopoints make an already unbelievably cheap form of energy and motoring even better.

Sorry for the long post!

Given I use sod all other than for charging the car, its very hard for me to save anything when it comes to the octoplus thing.... but i still made £3 last week!

But we have to remember that if all we wanted was cheap motoring we wouldnt be driving new or nearly new expensive cars, and the drive is also important not just the cost..... and the Jag ticks that box too (although the Mini is more fun!)

Your washing machine will be using <1kWh max per load dishwasher will be far less than 1kWh, tumble Dyer will be max 2kWh but closer to 1kWh. Overall still savings but its the EV charging which is bit saving.

True but overall you end up with a ‘blended rate’ of about 16p/kwh. I doubt there are regular tariffs out there comparable. As I was going EV anyway, due to the Sal Sac scheme, this is just a nice little extra on the top.

Either I don't go out and roll in the mud or my clothes are still dirty and I haven't noticed it but I only use a 1hr cycle on my washing machine and everything seems clean.
