Lifted from an article..

I come from.a sceptical stance about EV. So far haven't plugged in. Will update.
get it plugged in. I arrived home at 10.30 ish last night, plugged in, got up to a full "tank" this morning ahead of my 130 miles commute this eve. The Audi always needed fuel ahead of a long journey, my nearest station is only half a mile out of the way, but on a Friday eve that detour plus filling up easily added 30 mins to my journey.

The leather does look lovely - I'm going to have to drop in to my dealer to have a feel. I sat in an XM recently which may have had the same leather - it did feel soft and luxurious.

Looking at the configurator, 'Interior Design Atelier' seems to be the new name for Vernasca / Dakota which I'm not keen on. And 'Interior Design Suite' is probably the new equivalent for perforated extended Merino, although I haven't seen the olive leaf extract mentioned with Merino.

The 8 does have perforated extended Merino, but I was too cheap to get the £3k option which includes ventilation. Mine was 6 months old so I had to find the one with the best fit of options rather than my exact spec.

Interested to hear how you get on with the new toy.

The x5 has ventilated seats too..over the 3 years I haven't noted any benefit..ventilation suggests to me its useful for warmer climates not us. I think you saved 3k.
I also wanted bowers and wilkins on the IX that's the only option that was left to add. But a car with B&W too ie the 100%spec was 4k more expensive. As I'm not an audiophile and youtube music via android auto I saved that 4k.

That’s interesting that ventilation wasn’t useful. I don’t think the Lakes is much warmer than Glasgow!

I have B&W in the current 8, having had HK in the previous one. I’m not at all convinced that B&W is worth the extra. It’s better than HK, but the difference is pretty modest to my ears at least. If it was a 1k option then perhaps, but it doesn’t justify the price difference in my view. It only really adds a little bling to the car with its shiny steel grilles and light-up speakers.

That looks lovely. For the bling itself I would in your car. . Unfortunately imo in the IX the look of the speaker on the dash of bowers in a car with it is the same as HK. The pic of the dash is from a car with bowers The door speakers apart from metal covers don't look bling either..entirely different story in the x5/7/8 series etc where B&W reeks of premiumness as in your pic.

I liked the ventilation in the X5 - it works in a different way to what you may expect, it doesn’t blow air onto your body but sucks the moisture away.

I think the problem is that it doesn’t do what people expect so there is disappointment as a result.

Took the ix for a drive down country roads. Aurs road etc. It grips like glue on wet roads today. One pedal driving means as soon as you release the accelerator it slows right down. Its very quick once you press the accelerator it flies. Body lean is minimal. It handles brilliantly while gliding over broken roads. I've never driven m car but this is the best handling plus comfort car I've driven even better than the g05 x5 by miles and the 330e 530e 335d on acs/billyb8 etc. The test drive was in chill. Once sport is selected its more rewarding.

A quick question to people used to this. I charged for the first time and think limit was set at 80% should I go for like 95% or just leave it at 80%. Bearing in mind battery warranty lasts till 2030 ?

The advice I have seen is to only go above 80% on a day you cannot complete the trip without the extra range

I only charge above 80% if its being used straightaway.

I doubt 90/95 makes a huge difference, but all the same it seems worth restricting when the range isn't needed (almost all the time).

I limit the charge on my S23U to 85% too. Nice feature Samsung.

NB. I also try and avoid going below 20% for battery protection.

My usual home charging routine is set the limit to 80% and charge once below 30-40% depending on expected usage.

It sounds like a lot to think about when new to EVs but within days it becomes second nature. The hassle-free nature of it is wonderful.

Have had free supercharger miles in use for a few weeks and that's brilliant. The speed of charging is great.

Depends on your battery type and BMW recommendations. 80% sounds wise, I charge to 100 most of the time as it’s the Tesla recommendation on the LFP battery if the RWD.

It was another factor in the LR Vs the RWD. 80% of the bigger battery felt sinailt to 100% of the RWD for daily/weekly mileage use.

Up in Northumberland this week now and no issues with the journey up here, charging infrastructure seems to be getting there. I signed up for Electroverse on the back of OI and it gets discount on several places, Ionity was impressive at some M1 super aervices that had a Nando’s.

20-80 sounds wise for iX but best have a check of their manual etc

MashinBenzin pmgreenwood thanks...makes sense..with daily usage around 70 miles there's plenty with 80%..says 180 miles available..which is fine.
The other question is ..with ice constant revving up causes engine wear. If EV is driven foot to the floor a lot does it cause battery damage?
Long trips may be around (leeds) may have to check out superchargers. Great that you've got free SC miles

Signed up to OI. It asked for car makers charger make and then logged into my bmw account and that's that...did it take time before sign up using this process and confirmation tgat you were switched from flexible to intelligent?

I did it on the APP and I can’t recall if it was instant or overnight to move me over. Very impressed so far tbh.

Whereas Jag seem to have no issue with charging to 100% so I do most of the time... and run it down to less than 20% fairly often too....

Yeah. It would be my preference to charge to 100%. We'll done to jag.

More experiences..

1.Going over metal speed breakers in the school car park. The X5 would thud slightly and shake a bit before settling. . This shruggs it off its as if Going over a minor road imperfection no sound no shake!
2. Drivingin rain. . I'm aware of how the rainwater usually makes a sound in wheelerarches. In this sounded like a distant stream. Actually relaxing.
3. 3 of us in the rear its very spacious. Note how the seats flow on to the door arches and the material on the doors is also very soft.
4. The back floor is flat and there is space for feet under central console.

I usually charge mine to 80% if not on a trip, just so the 'normal' regenerative braking is available.
