Yep - They don't want to punt on anything like it at the moment.

The spread they are working on is massive. Car dealers want the best when the markets good and bad.

Out of interest, as may be selling a car via Motorway. Do they drive the car away, or collect on a wagon?

I sold a car to to motorway in October. A “retired” guy arrived on public transport, took the same photos and did the sam checks as had already been posted on motorway and drove the car away once the bank transfer had been done. This actually surprised me as he didn’t have trade plates and did not tax the car.

I’m sceptical if there is actually an auction as I got paid the reserve price.

Similar to above. Some old fella rang me and said he was dropping a car off about 5 miles away and would get the bus over to ours. Knowing the bus timetables I popped over and collected him, was also able to sound him out and make sure he was legit. He was collecting for a Skoda garage about 3 hours away.

A lady collected mine and drove it off, she seemed like a full time mum and didn't really know cars.

It was sold to Jardine Mini 50 miles away. Reserve was £18,275 and it sold for £18,701

I sold the M5 to sytner and they collected it on a wagon, but both Audis, which went the same route, were driven away...

Collecting and delivering as a retirement hobby sounds like a fun way to pass the time....

I imagine there are some good drives back - but also some real shitboxes they need to deliver as well.

all part of life's rich tapestry, it would be relying on public transport around the driving that did me....

All the ones who have collected mine over the years look knackered, its not one drive a day its multiple and all needing to be done in certain timeframes etc.

Last one the guy collected it, drove 30 miles the wrong way to his house for the night and then at 5am had to leave to get it to the dealer in time for opening.

Not the chilled retired type work I would want after a hard working career

When I bought my Z4M I bought it from BMW Westerly in Exeter and it was driven to my home by an older gentleman and his wife, they then stayed overnight in a hotel and drove back the next day in my traded in Focus ST. The pair used to drive all over the country and seemed to really enjoy it, checked the trip computer on the Z4 to check that he hadn’t been kicking the arse out of it and he was averaging about 37mpg.

X5  [8.50]
IX  [8.00]
The guy who came to pick up my x5 had dropped off a car in livingston (around 38 mi away) before he came to collect mine. Presumably the dealer had charged a fee for that. 2 birds with 1 stone.

My Mini Electric is being driven around 200 miles to me. He’s then driving the Mini I’m trading in back to the same dealer. The going rate is £1 per mile apparently, although he’s only being paid for one direction. The delivery driver is a BA air steward apparently, who does this for them regularly. I think their work schedules - several days on, several days off - means this can be a relatively easy second income.

I think you can choose how many and what jobs you take if you do it self employed, and therefore avoid too much stress...

Not that I've been looking at it!

Thanks chaps.

Spent all day cleaning the car and taking pictures, only to find you take the photos in their app. It was too dark when I found out.
