Using dish rinse aid?
Hard water is a huge issue where I live, and doing washes at home is difficult because of water stains. Has anyone use dish rinsing aid like Jet Dry/Finish, to do a rinse during/after wash? Will it do anything to a waxed paint?

I feel like that wouldn't be the best idea but if you don't get any definitive responses and want to try it, test it on a small section that's not too obvious.
What's your general wash procedure? We have hard water outside as well but I've been able to avoid getting any water spots. I do a 2 bucket method but I make sure to keep the entire wet throughout the wash and dry by hand. I also apply a layer of Meguir's Hybrid Ceramic Spray after every wash which helps a tonne |

Wash the car with Optimum No Rinse, which will eliminate most water spotting:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I suppose in a worst case scenario you could use it with distilled water, which isn't that expensive, as you only need two gallons. |

Inline Filter against hard water (calcium)!? The only pressure washer inline filters I find online are protecting from dirt particles. They are useless against hard water.

It was a particle filter. It was a def improvement in the quality of the water, without choking my pressure washer. It was better than nothing. Also chemical guys has a great water spot remover.

My Kärcher has an integrated particle filter too, but that won't help the op. He has hard water (calcium), not particles.

I have some water spotting issues, but not nearly as bad as the OP.
Having said that, though, I've found that using a quick detailer or similar during the drying process helps a lot. I personally use this: https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/...-g190526-26-oz Though, I apparently don't follow the directions exactly. I spray it on while the car is still wet and then gently dry with a microfiber, wringing water out of it as I go. Leaves a great shine and 100% spot free. What little water remains doesn't seem to leave spots using this method. Not sure if it would help the OP, but maybe.

My QD of choice is CarPro Ech2O because my car is wearing a ceramic coating. When I used sealants, I used several QD sprays and spray waxes. My favorite was Kenotek Show Room Shine, which appears to no longer be available in the US. Many products and people sing the praises of using a drying aid and spraying the car while wet, and then drying. I'm sure it works well, but I found the products were hard to clean out of my drying towels and it made them water proof! Not a good thing for a towel. I just dry the car and then go around and give it a quick, light wipe down with a MF towel and a little QD spray. Problem solved. Depending on the product, I've also seen car wash soaps cause water spots. Some cheaper ones don't dissolve easily and others are hard to rinse off. This can lead to spotting too.

Agreed. I have hard water. Like can make stalagmites if left dripping hard.
Meguires blue colored speed wax/spray worked post wash, chem guys speed wax or insta wax works, etc. I just used the hydro spin to wipe down the wheels post wash and get rid of water spots on them. Most water spot removers are just jellied vinegar. Works great on glass on car or shower doors but I don’t want t on paint unless you plan to re-wax. Minimization is name of the game. Work in evening or early am, wash only what you can wipe down in 2-4 minutes, or get help drying. And touch up water spots asap with quick wax or quick detailer while they are still soft and not etched in!

Hey guys. New F31 owner here. Black over black. From the previous owner, the horizontal surfaces are covered in hard water spots (hood, roof, etc.). It doesn't appear that the car has been waxed in a long time, either. What recommendations do you have for a full procedure to get the paint looking good and properly protected again? Thanks!

It depends on how bad it is and how good you want to make it. I do a full correction every 12k miles, using Menzerna Steps 1, 2 and 3 https://www.amazon.com/Menzerna-400-...85758601&psc=1 sealing it with Power Lock https://www.amazon.com/menzerna-PL25...15312323&psc=1 Every spring I do just Step 2 and 3 and Power Lock. There are more how to do it videos on youtube than you can shake a stick at.

Thanks for the recommendation. Menzerna looks like a really nice product. Pricey, though. I need to decide just how badly I want to commit.
Do you apply it by hand or with a random orbital polisher? If the latter, can you recommend one (brand, model, and disc size)? |

For Step 1 I use a rotary polisher. I have this, but there's not much difference between rotary polishers. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have one of these for the remaining steps. Battery power is a lot easier to handle, and you don't need the power of corded other than when doing major correction with heavy cut compound. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T64P1FG...7-100d59bd966b I use these pads: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

Using dish rinse aid?
Great advice above. I can only note how I maintain my car. In north Louisiana we have hard water with lots of calcium, which as noted by others above stinks if you let the water sit on the car. I recently had my car (glacial metallic silver) ceramic coated and that has made everything much easier. I didn't really change much from what I did before, but the ceramic coating definitely has made things easier and looks better. For a quick wash, I use the optimum no rinse as @billfitz noted and then towel dry. If I have more time, I use the Meguire's hybrid spray and then rinse off and towel dry. Usually looks great. Certainly the key for me is not to let the water sit on the car as i definitely get water spots quickly.

I’m lazy. I use Menzerna One Step Polish (3in1) then I use Collinite 845 wax. I can’t remember how old my bottle of Collinite is. It’s worked for me for years.

Hard water stains can usually be removed with white vinegar. Moisten a microfiber tower with the vinegar and hold it on the spots for a minute or so. Do not wipe back and forth but let the vinegar dissolve the calcium of the water spots. Wash off with water , dry and wax or seal.
