Hi Everyone, Looking to get started in the engine bay for my 2016 320i and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for performance intakes (with pics if possible)? Thanks everyone!

If by 'performance' you mean 'cold air', the stock intake is cold air. If you can see the air filter when you open the hood it's not. Performance gains from replacement intakes vary from barely any to none.

if the stock is cold air, then what would be the difference between the stock air filter (flat type) vs the aftermarket air filter (cylinder)? why wouldn't oem (bmw, benz, etc) adapt the aftermarket intake shape?

As the Jedi pointed out an intake will not make a lick of a difference on your 20i, use that $ for more tangible improvements like suspension. Intakes barely made a difference even on B58s besides more noise..

The only thing I liked about my AFE intake is how loud the turbo sounds were but that's it. I went back to stock

The aftermarket shape is pure marketing. 'It looks different, so it must be better' sells a lot of products.

I wouldn't mess with the 320i's intake at all if I could do it all over again….

Awesome I appreciate this thread. Still fairly new to modifying cars so this definitely helped a lot.

For N55, but you get the point. Intakes are for sound.

The BMW intake doesn't need assistance. The turbo sucks in all the air it can use and more. That's why it has a waste gate.
