Obviously ideally what you want is simple 3 pin external sockets, as EV take up increases the demand for destination charging at hotels/holiday areas will go up. Getting 3 pin plugs installed is much easier than even 7KW chargers or rapid chargers.
At home or at friends/family, but in a B&B etc, I’d be surprised if they’d allow that. Not been to a B&B for years though.

I've done at BBs, villas, shacks, all with permission from the owners. Its a 3 pin socket pulling sub 10amps, I always offer to pay for the electricity used as the car records it, but so far no one has asked for any £.

As I've said our EV is our main family car and the one we take on holidays since 2015, even on holiday 95% of my charging is done via destination charging. I love been able to refuel the car from just about any destination.

Quick update.

My wife got an extended test drive in the I3s. She loved it!!! As did the kids.

I appreciate it isn't to everyone's liking - but it does seem to give us what we need.Maximum journey length will be 25 miles round trip.

Planning to settle the finance on my M40i and that will become the family workhouse for longer trips.

She has a couple of purchasing options and needs to decide between i3 or i3s.

I will also sort out all wall charger. So any recommendations in Glasgow much appreciated!!!

Nice!

Have they already dropped the price so it still qualifies for the grant? Was on Auto Mondial last week that it was happening.

Got to be the I3S rather than the I3 as it looks a lot better and apparently rides a lot better due to the wider track
And price of the I3S is now just under 35k to get the grant so it’s 32.5k but ones a few months old are 25k upwards.

I had one for an overnight last week. Loved the urgency of the drive but decided there are too many flaws and compromises for me to get one. Make sure you try the doors in parking spaces as they are particularly awkward there.

So what's the front runner now then davyk31 ? At some stage I will trade the Mini for an EV I suppose so threads like these interest me....

Here is my thought…
How about a standardised . Common modular battery platform / dimensions built into a floor plan and waterproof connectors that allows batteries to be easily replaced (perhaps as a slide in unit?) as degradation takes a toll on capacity - it also opens the route for upgrades in future as battery tech advances -

It could ultimately lead to a situation where you eventually lease the battery and are able to either charge it yourself at home / at kerbside charger or swap it out for a full one at a drive through recharging station (say on a motorway services….)

Clearly there are practical issues such as manufacturers agreeing a common standard, charging / storage / fitting etc, but none are beyond the wit of man

Congrats and welcome to the world of EV.

Ref chargers, I have an Andersen A2 charger. It's certainly not the cheapest, but it is the most aesthetically pleasing and neatest charger out there. I've had mine a year and it's been great, with excellent support from Andersen when required.

Also, it would be worth looking at your electricity provider. I have just switched to a tariff that provides 4 hours of super-cheap electricity per day (5p/kWh). It means I can fill my car for the grand sum of £2.50, which will give me 200 miles of range.

No recommendations, but the grant for install is higher in Scotland so you shouldn't be much more than £300 depending on fusebox location, cable run etc

Front runner now is possibly the ID.4. Had one for the weekend and did about 250 miles. Loads of space, not the fastest EV by any means but it really doesn’t tempt you into fast driving. Good range as well with a higher level of quality than the ID.3
Also sat in a Kona but haven’t driven yet. Seems a nice enough vehicle but not that spacious in the rear which may be an issue for me with 2 teenagers and 2 dogs. Kona also exceptional value on a business lease.

Thanks. Kona is a bit small (the Niro is bigger) but very popular in London it seems and would probably make my list as mine would be a station runabout and small is good for that....

To some degree I feel the ID4 is a little too big although my teenagers love the space. The Kona just felt a little tight and the centre console is all very cheap looking hard plastic. The ID3 might be the best choice for me as it’s plenty big and roomy inside but I’m not too keen on its front design, looks a bit dumpy and short

Quite a good lease deal (£313pm) on the Kona currently and it’s 2 years so easy to dip your toe in the water to experience the EV thing

How about an Enyaq? Better looking than the ID3 but essentially the same car.

Yes have the Enyak on the radar too but they aren’t in showrooms yet. Would compare it more in size with the ID.4 but the Skoda seems to look a bit blander. They are cheaper although need a few options added to get up to a decent look and the 60 model has less range than the ID4

As regards the Kona I am leasing one for another employee on a 6+35 @ £350 plus VAT per month for the 64kwh Premium. Seems a very good price and when you consider that is for 25000 miles per annum I think it’s a fantastic price.

Still too big though surely if that was the feedback on the ID4?

Have you tried a Mini SE? I have owned both and think the Mini is the better car. I'd look at the Andersen if you want a charger that will blend in.
