How to put wipers in vertical position for snow parking

I have info from somewhere about switching ignition on, then off. Then lift up wiper switch (lever?) and let go. Doesn't work.
How do do this? Snow coming.

It worked in two 3 series and one 5 series I’ve owned.

I'm going for "this practice is a silly waste of time". I have never once had my wipers froze to the window so hard that there was an issue.

Why not just give them a quick lift before you drive away if you are concerned?

Go a little slower with on and off...and maybe harder up on the stalk. As mentioned, it's in your manual...which is in your iDrive

Yeah, but you have to read your manual to know that it's in the iDrive.

They'll freeze in place in an ice storm, but you never drive in a ice storm, no matter what.

From my personal experience, keeping the wiper in the up position for an extended time will stretch the spring and the wipers wont make contact with the windshield properly anymore.

I keep two wine corks in my car that I put under the wiper arms. They keep the wipers off of the window just enough.

No, it does not stretch the springs as the wiper blades are still on the screen, being vertical is no different than parked anywhere else on the windscreen.

Living in Canada, I'm really surprised this hasn't been an issue for year. Several times each winter I run into problems where a heavy layer of ice forms all over the window and getting them free is a real problem and hard to do without tearing the blades.

Even with the defroster running, the area where the wipers park is too far down to get much heat and it doesn't provide any help with freeing them up either.

Even when you lift them off the screen into the "maintenance position" off the glass, there still doesn't seem to be much stress/stretch on the spring. If you only do it a couple times a year for a few hours at a time, I don't see how it would be much of a problem.
