ok kool.

I plugged my numbers in under the custom setting and the range of spring rates that can be used to meet the flat ride threshold is substantial.

I just got the spring rates for my ST suspension springs for ActiveHybrid f30, they say 23N/mm front, 27N/mm rear (130 and 154 lbs/in) seems far off from what you have for other models...

i can't run the calculator off my ipad now but what do you make of these? Makes sense considering the 50/50 weight distribution?
I asked eibach spring rates for AH3 to compare, no answer yet.

Thanks!

The OE front spring rate for the AH3 could be 23N/mm, but if the ST coilovers are stiffer than OE they're probably much higher than that. There's absolutely no way the rear spring would only be 27N/mm stock or ST due to how inboard the spring is on the arm. Is it possible they were quoting the rear 27N/mm as the wheel rate? I'd again be very surprised if the rear wheel rate on the ST coilover setup was that low since some of the OE BMW suspensions are stiffer than that.

I agree!

Still, KW confirmed 23 n/mm front - 27n/mm rear, considering the brevity of their answer i didn't get much more... could be at wheel indeed.

Eibach (Germany) responded but declined to provide spring rates, they consider this is confidential info.

not so easy to compare products!

I took a look at the ETK system and AH3 OE springs seem to be the same as the F34 4cyl xDrive ones. The base suspension front spring is actually a bit stiffer than 23N/mm, and the M-Sport/Adaptive-M suspension springs are certainly stiffer.

As far as Eibach goes, the AH3 kit is E10-20-031-05-22 with spring rates 34N/mm front and 95N/mm rear.

They are usually re-valved to match and they provide a shock dyno (I believe FA does)

For those with F30 335i RWD, what spring rates are you guys running? In particular, the HPDE guys.

Am I missing something, the download link isn't working for me?

Looking at the Fortune Auto 500 series with swift springs at 5k / 16k as per Farkles recommendation on another thread. Has someone already plugged these numbers in?

this calculator is great! definitely a new found understanding on spring rates for me. thanks FaRKle!

pauli18c I'm interested in the 500 series FA coils too with swift springs like FaRKle! suggest at 5k/16k. I wonder what FA has to say about that setup.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but when downloading the file on a computer, it doesn't show the vehicle's weight and etc. But when downloading on a phone, it shows that information.

Using the calculator, stock springs on a set of coilovers I am looking at comes with 400/575lb springs, and works out to 0.79 bounce freq ratio. For perspective, the B16 show a ratio of 0.77 using the data there.

Keeping the front which is around 7.1K and increasing the rear to 10K (1000lb) I can get flat ride at a ratio of 1.04 R/F. The minimum rear rate for flat ride is 932lbs. Is the difference discernible to occupants?

For dual duty, some HPDE events next season, and DD with an infant in the back would this be too stiff? The coilovers are adjustable (20 clicks).

IME you need a flat ride ratio of at least than 3% (1.03) to really feel the benefits. Going from 932 to 1000lbs/in in the rear might be a bit noticeable, but I think you'll need the 1000lbs/in to really get the flat ride benefit.

B16 rears with a 1000lbs/in spring is still more comfortable than my stock M2C's rear suspension. I recommend starting at damper setting 7 (this is what I tuned an F32 with B16s and 1000lbs/in rear springs to).

Also, depending on how low you want to run the rear ride height, you might want to trim the bump stop a bit too. To do that cut the zip tie on the rubber boot, then pull it back to expose the bump stop and then cut it while it's still on the shaft. You'll need a new zip tie to secure the boot to the damper after.

Cool that makes sense. I ordered them with 350/1000lb springs. If it proves to be not in my comfort zone, even with the 20 clicks, I'll start playing with swift springs.

They are Flatout Suspension ST coilovers.

Take a look at Hyperco springs too. They're usually $20-$30 cheaper a spring than Swift. Swift has no advantages IMO. They used to have a greater travel range than some others, but not anymore.

And if you're on a budget, look at QA1 springs.

I went with FaRKle! recommended suspension setup. He got me setup with Bilstein PSS10 comfort version with 5k/16k spring rates. Because of the cold weather and daily driving, I have all dampening at 1 (softest setting) and the car feels amazing. Not floaty, greatly reduced body roll, no pogo feeling, absorbs some/most road conditions but still able to be tossed around with confidence.

I will mess with the dampening more when at the track but for daily commutes with includes 80% of highway, it's perfect. At first I was skeptical of Drew's recommendation, but after paying close attention and reading his responses to this subject matter, watching his videos and actually talking to him, he's very knowledgeable on this subject.
