Platinum warranty?
I'm in the process of completing a long distance purchase of an '18 340i 6MT w/ 7k miles. Dealer offering 6 year/60k miles "platinum" warranty w/ $100 deductible.
As I understand it, 6 years from today (1.5 yrs factory remaining, so effectively a 4.5 year warranty), and 60k miles from today - so 67k miles total. Price $2k. Worth it? Dealer also offering full ceramic coat and interior treatment for $549. I know these things are usually money makers - but the prices we landed on are a big drop from the original quoted price. Tempted, but curious what others have experienced. |

Is the warranty the BMW OEM Extended Warranty or a MBI from a 3rd party? Since the deductible is $100, I'm guessing the latter. See my repost of my respost here.
I'd also pass on the full ceramic coat. I dont trust a dealer enough to ceramic coat the car, as trying to correct any screw up is going to cause more pain than it's worth. If you want a ceramic coat, take the car to a respected detailer.

For your MY18, assuming it was originally put into service in 2017 or 2018, your 6-year extended warranty would extend to 2023 at the earliest or 2024 - not the balance of the factory warranty and when you purchase it. This is applicable to mileage as well, it's not 60,000 miles starting when you purchase the warranty so in your case, the warranty allows another 53,000 miles. I apologize if my math is off, been a long day. |
