There are plenty of Rolex models available, they are just all in the wrong place, - on the grey market.

People with more money than sense, prepared to pay twice the list price for 2nd hand watches are the cause of it, spurred on by massive Rolex marketing over the last decade. The number of people I have heard describe Rolex as the "Rolls Royce of watches" when they aren't even close, is baffling.

Kendo, you should be able to get a 36mm OP (provided not green dial) fairly readily, from the dealer. Also some of the DateJusts and Day/Date watches. A steel and gold Sky Dweller may have the shortest wait of any of the other sports watches.

For the rest, forget it, or expect a wait of a couple of years, assuming you can get on a list at all. If you are unlucky, the AD may try to entice you to purchase over priced jewellery or window watches that won't sell (including Rolex), probably to the tune of five figures, and that still won't get you any assurances. Some of the grey market prices are getting so bad, it would be cheaper to buy a Patek Philippe.

Never bought a new Rolex before so not a "valued" customer and obviously i cant just pop in and get one due to their "restricted" supply shenanigans so am keen to know about their waiting list and more importantly the length of said list for a newbie customer.

For the record it is potentially going to be a Sea-Dweller , Deep Blue.

I was in your position and managed to find an AD with no list for the 126660, still waited nearly a year though, but then again that was right when covid started so that may explain it.

I have posted pics of my Deep Blue on here, I would def recommend it if you can find one.

I prefer a larger watch , 43mm>, my Plant Ocean is 46mm and i like the way it "wears" , when i go back to the SM300 or Bremont they feel lost on the wrist after the PO. I know the DB is a large watch at 44mm but being a chunky it seems to wear big on the wrist,

Not too fussed about a year + wait as i am not retiring until next year , i just refuse to pay the artificially high prices of second hand () ones at 40% plus over list so am prepared to wait as long as i am on the list , plus i was talking to a "Rolex" chap at the gym the other day who said the Deep Blue was going to be discontinued shortly so best get in there when they are still being manufactured or it will need to be an expensive used one if i am desperate.

I think there are a few Rolex places in Glasgow , Laings / WoS / and an AD.

We are off to London on Monday so will pop into a few AD`s down there , whilst the wife + daughter are shopping ,to see if they have any i can try on.

Thanks again - K

I am so over the Rolex BS. I wish you the best of luck and hope you achieve the watch. I considered settling for a different model when I wanted a GMT….

My last big purchase was a Moonwatch in Aruba ah a +20% discount. The guy even shipped the box back to the US for me!

I"m settling here watching the Wimbledon final with all the Rolex commercials…. Yet you can buy on… unless you want a gold version to put in a draw… plain dumb.

Edit…. And the dealers totally annoy me…. There's a shop near me where the guys probably make a 3rd of the income I do being smug able who can buy what…. Rant over…

Agreed. I would quite like a sub but I am not going to get into the Rolex bull to get one. So sod them. Got a new Omega and Bremont recently, walked into an AD, was looked after and walked out with what I wanted with a discount to boot. Both are beautifully made watches, some people rate the Omega higher than the Rolex anyway

People with omegas just kidding!

I just picked up this, from a brand most people seem to dislike but I think it's a really nice looking military inspired watch.

Quality on a par with anything else I've owned, albeit with a simple ETA movement. It's a U-47 (47mm) auto.

Not a huge fan of the strap styling so got a new one on the way.

Haha, most Omega's are COSC rated now with high magnetic resistance for a lower cost of entry than Rolex.

It's all down to perception. I wanted a Rolex because it is a Rolex and therefore some kind of status. Pretty much over that now…. I'd rather the $10k in the bank!

According to the chap in the shop he said "his" list has six names on it for the Deep Blue, the other sales assistants may have similar numbers on their list.

Who knows

Possibly some of the others may not be in a position ,in the present financial climate, to complete the sale (within 48h) and this will push me up the pecking order.

As said , absolutely no hurry if it takes a couple of years then so be it but i have done a bit of digging and possibly the DB will be getting discontinued soon so i figured i better register my interest before it does.

I don’t know why, but I have never posted in this thread…

So, my wrist watches are all Citizen these days, and this is my latest…

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07XPVTMNK

I used to wear the plastic TAG F1 watches in the 90’s, had one in blue, but I kind of went off that and bought a Citizen in the USA that I saw advertised somewhere… Think it was a Skyhawk eco drive…and it was a really great watch… solid, reliable, never needed a battery, had multi-zone settings (ideal for me and my travelling work life) and it lasted for years until somebody stole it from work…

… and I replaced it with another Citizen… and now that last one for something different…

For me, a watch has to be nice enough to want to wear, good enough quality that it’ll take the knocks that I invariably give it, and cheap enough that if I dropped it and broke it I’d be on to another one…

I do appreciate that some like to buy investment watches, or watches for show or whatever, but that is not really me… Just about all the things I buy are bought for function… and get used a lot… I guess some folk would think what I spend on cameras, say, is crazy…

I mean, I have dabbled at times with wanting a more expensive watch… Some of the TAG Carreras are nice and I like the Rolex Milgauss… and I am quite taken with some of the Sinn watches… But long gone are the days when you could buy those watches at what I might think a sensible price…

I have a liking for for Omega. Seamaster chrono diver in stainless with a omega blue rubber strap on a deployment clasp, Seamaster chrono diver Titane which is full titanium and weighs 75 grams less than the stainless version and lastly Omega Constellation Double Eagle, a wee bit more dressy and smart.

That's the thing isn't it? They are both great manufacturers. If I was to have [the budget for] five decent watches, I've no doubt a Rolex would be amongst them. There are some Rolex features in certain watches that I dislike, and some stone cold classics in the range that I would love to own.

That's a beautiful Sea Dweller.

Funny how the 44mm Rolex gets some stick regarding its size but the PO looks as if it dwarfs it in the pic.

Yeah the PO is a good size bigger and heavier than the 126660. They both have presence when worn though.

I have a PO in the box and you would certainly notice if it fell off , when i wear the Bremont or the SM300 after the PO it feels like they are filled with helium.

Which AD did you end up at?

I used Laings when buying my Tudor and found them most helpful

The boutique at the top of Buchanan St , just outside the galleries.

I think it used to be Watches of Switzerland , or possibly still is.

Think it is. I was in before it was rebranded to Rolex solely.
