The extended storage option was one that I didn't want to pay for, assuming that this storage bin, which was available on my previous basic-spec E90 325d would also be available on the F30!

All true. But I wanted to skip tracks without having to look at any screen controls.

As mentioned, the next track is now a toggle which can be used to go through lists- tracks, numbers, radio stations etc (or at least it can on the HUD)

There is a dipstick, though took me 18 months to find it!

Good to see more non MSport contributors.
Glad you all liked the review. There's so much good info here, it's the least I could do, to do a decent review.

So, where is the dipstick?

Is the "Remote App" in the iTunes app store? I looked the evening and could not see it. There was an app that has videos of BMW Connect features, which got slated.

Am I missing something?
it's definitely available on UK iTunes.

I'm using it with my iPhone 6S, iOS 9.2

Just one quick question (for anyone really) - when I've tried to use the vehicle locate function, it won't work of I'm >1.5km away. How did you manage to make this work with the car in London and you in Hamburg?
That's strange. It definitely worked on my iPhone 6S. I tried to locate the car when I knew it was being driven back to me, a message came us saying that the 'locate' feature only worked with the ignition off.

It's called 'BMW Remote', it should be there. It's a good app, you can start your cars ventilation from it or set a timer for it to come on as well. You can also lock/unlock your car and flash the headlights. You need to turn the GPS function on in the car for it to show your location.

Adaptive suspension- you should feel a very clear change in damping between comfort and sport modes. Much tighter and more controlled in sport. I always use sport unless on the motorway.

You can also configure the settings in idrive so that the sport button either selects just damping (chassis), or damping and gearbox settings. I keep mine as just damping as you can always move the lever to the left if you want the sports gearbox setting. The auto box will learn your driving style and adapt to it. It's hugely impressive imo.

V annoying re lights. My dad's got a 435i Luxury and i came with xenons as standard so I'd expect the same on your car.

The 3.0d is outstanding and much faster than I will ever 'need'. I prefer the stiffer set up of the m sport though and like you wanted a blue as I feel it goes rather well with SB. Estoril is also too light for my liking and I didn't want to pay the extra for individual so went with MG - a colour that has really grown on me since collection, so much so my wife and sons cars are now also dark grey

I also like how the leather colour comes alive at night with the amber ambient lighting
Actually the full black dash on the M-Sport was another reason for choosing the 'Luxury', which gives half Saddle Brown. I wasn't sure how it'd work in practice, but it does.

I was surprised by the interior (ambient?) lighting. It's a nice touch. It allows you to switch between two different colours; red and white.

I definitely have Sports and Sports +, so I guess I must have the adaptive damping. It really does feel like you've got access to three different cars.

How does the auto box learn your driving style? i.e how do you know it's changing its behaviour based on your own driving style?

I generally leave it on Comfort unless I'm on a long tedious motorway stretch, when I use Eco Pro. I'm slowly exploring the capabilities of Sports and Sports +. What I really need to do is to nip over to Germany in early Spring

I think your car would have Sport and Sport + regardless of whether you have adaptive damping. It would just change the gearbox settings and maybe the engine sound I think, but someone without adaptive should be able to confirm.

AFAIK the gearbox learns how long and hard you press the accelerator and adapts to it. I tend to accelerate hard and use a lot of the Rev range rather than tickle the pedal (otherwise I wouldn't have a 335D!). I've noticed that when setting off the car holds onto gears longer than it used to even when taking it easy, and in Comfort mode. It also changes down more aggressively for corners and stops. Of course i could be imagining it but I'm sure I read it adapts.

Great review. You should've applied to be one of the new presenters on Top Gear.

Enjoy the car.

The wife's Octavia has active cruise functions on a separate stalk like my old e92. I find it irritating and annoying clumsily trying to find the correct stalk while driving so I don't indicate instead. I massively prefer the cruise functions on the wheel like in my f31.

My last car, (520) had the same colour scheme as yours. When I got my 330d a couple of months ago, I wanted a change, but your photos show how mine may have looked had I gone for the same colours again, which I miss.

I plucked for the M Sport with M Sport Plus pack, but it was a toss up between that and your spec.

Road noise in mine has reduced since putting my non run flat winter wheels on. When I swap back again, I'll really notice the noise!

Nice review! I went from an e90 330d manual so similar feeling to yourself. The adaptive dampers make the car less floaty for sure i have driven both back to back and in sport mode they do reduce body roll. The luxury does look nice, shame about no Led headlights but the engine makes up for it! How are you finding the difference in MPG?

I also find the indicators in the mirror a bit bright at night. I borrowed some of Mrs Creepy's nail polish and painted over mine. It has toned them down nicely. I can still see them, but nowhere near as bright. Just need to do the same with the green light on the 8sp gear shifter.

Green indicator on the gear stick? Can't actually think I noticed it.

Admittedly I tend to be looking out the windscreen

That and stick pushed left.

Is it actually that noticeable?

Nice review.

On the cruise control position - I had an E46 with steering wheel cruise controls and got really used to it. Then I had an E90 and two successive Audi B8 A4s, all with a separate stalk for cruise. It took me ages to get used to in the E90 and then the Audi implementation. I suppose I got used to it, however I'm massively pleased to have cruise controls back on the steering wheel.
