This is my exact dilemma on going in and putting a deposit for an M2. Yes I want it.

1. It cant come close to M3 pricing otherwise Im gravitating to the F80.
2. Have to see the final car without camo. Cant commit to something I have no clue if I will really love the looks of.

Regardless were all optimistic and this car will be very very good. Just BMW must price this car strategic enough to reel in a younger crowd but at the same time not be close enough to the M3 for people like us that will jump over without hesitation..

The M2 is BMW's MVP- a car that lacks all the features of its bigger brothers while providing 80% of the value. This also leaves them more room for incremental changes in the future.

It will be 90% of the straight line performance with 130% of the thrills compared to "it's bigger brothers".

You can quote me on that

Officially #3 at my local dealership

Also test drove an F80 with 6MT. Forgot just how damn good this car is. Thoroughly enjoyed it and could definitely see myself in one again

It's awesome. If you need a 4 door, then this car with 6MT is just so much fun.

But an M2 is still at the top of my list. I will say though, I also drove a base Cayman and still had a blast. So many damn good cars out, we're all spoiled

No deposit required, which surprised me. Basically, when the specs come out, I'll have to put a deposit down, most likely before I get to test drive one.

I can still walk away without any issues still

I don't know. I asked Greg to put me on the list a while back. Scott Hughes (i8, CSL bat mobile, 3.0CSL lemans winner etc etc) may not be #1. Doesn't seem like his cup of tea but who knows.

It's weird, I don't really need the 4 doors, but I truly like the way it looks better than the M4.

I think I will wait for the M2 to debut before doing anything, but as you said, it is nice to have some awesome options.

For me it's the S55 over any variation of the N55. That N55 engine just isn't going to be strong enough for me!! ugh I currently own a 135i/N54 fully modded with the exeption of meth (been there done that). I need a car that i can look foward to tinkering with and has amazing capabilities. I have a deposit on a M2 now but thinking about switching it over to a 2016 F80 or F82. I also have the great convenience of being able to utilize the BMW Military sales division

When I see a BMW, the first thing I consider is the motor. It's always been what stands out, especially for an M car.

I hear you there on the N55 - I certainly have not loved either version that I've had, but I have discovered that the chassis and ride might be more important to me. Those two things are much better in the F8X Ms vs. my 235, and I can understand ///W's position that a 235 with all the M3/4 bits underneath will be really really good.

Would I rather have the S55? Of course. But if the M2 comes in around the low 52K mark, it might be a tradeoff that is worth considering because the chassis, brakes, etc, are going to be much better than what I have now.

Like many others have said, we just need to see it at this point.

I know it'll be brilliant if you can wait . I didn't but as you've said a few times David, the benefit of 4 doors (family, dogs, etc in my situation) was a contributing factor as to why I made the decision that I did. I'm ecstatic over the thought of the incoming car but at the same time a little disappointed I won't be able to participate in the "hands on" excitement of the M2 when it arrives. Anyone who gets one will be fortunate.

I think a variant of the S55 with shorter stroke would be a killer motor for this car. Shorter stroke would decrease overall torque and HP to protect the M3/4's output dominance but would give the M2 a rev happy motor.

Something to consider.
