All Things Austin - ATA

I am guessing most of you are on FB or IG. Please excuse me for not being there with you.

Any meet ups, drives, or other activities that take place around the greater Austin area?

No big deal. I will keep cruisin and doin my own thing

I have had the car for less than 2 months and have had to experience everything for myself.

Cedar Park (N Austin) Lux Autoworks originally inspected my car. Technician was helpful to a degree. I think he was scared to give me his opinion on my rusty situation. Communication didnt work so well between the service rep and I
BMW of Austin did the 2nd inspection and replaced the front control arm bushings. If you need BMW parts and service, they were nice and communicated well.
Munich Auto in N Austin did not communicate very well. I called twice and could not get the help I was looking for.
Cedar Park (N Austin) I have called and texted European Automotive many times. Including after hours. They have been very helpful and communicate very well. Most likely who I will be choosing for the performance and suspension mods.

I have seen and heard of a couple meetups for all car enthusiasts near Vista Ridge HS in Cedar Park and at the Lowes/Kohls Parking lot in Leander on the weekends randomly. Not plugged in enough to give exact information.

If you cant tell, I am on the North Side. No clue what happens in N San Antonio (South Austin joke)

European Automotive looks to be like my shop now. First time doing a full brake job myself and wasnt 100% confident. Since I have been talking with Mitchell there, I decided to have him take a look and grade my work. After a few looks and test drive, all ended up being well. Took care of me and is looking forward to helping me with my bolt ons and suspension.

Sorry to hear about being secluded bro. Life is challenging sometimes, for real. What all have you done to the car. How are you enjoying it? How’s Austin? Still using the same shop?

Purchased in Feb of this year. Came with 2 leaky rear shocks and 2 cracked control arms bushings and really bad paint.

I am using a larger shop now. Spoke to the tech there and he seemed to know what he is talking about. Lindsey Bimmer in Leander. I did some of the work myself. Shop(s) did the larger items.

Vrsf downpipe - stock one broke
Vrsf chargepipe
Injen CAI
Dinan coils
Valvetronic muffler
New control arm bushings
New rear control arm
KW Street Comfort with EDC
SPL adjustable sway bar end links - for the coilovers
EBC red stuff brake pads
New rotors
Cleaned and painted calipers
Bimmercode
MHD stage 1 e30
Rotiform r134 18x8.5 +35
Nitto Motivo 255/40

Inner city is horrible. Drive the speed limit and you might be ok. Suburbia is a lot better.

Tons of places to take pictures. Near the capital at night. Pick a lake nearby. Bullock hollow is where I usually go. 620 near Lakeway or the damn.

Man, sounds like a sweet setup to me!!! I was looking into KW Street Comfort. I have the OE adaptive dampers now and they are hella plush. When they need replacing i was thinking the exact kit you have to close the wheel gap. How do you like them?

Seems to me like a very nice and solid build brother. Glad you have a shop you like!!! Good work is never cheap right?

Good work is hard to find 😜

KWs set up right in the middle was a bit too soft for sport mode. I adjusted them one click harder from the middle and now it feels great. Adjustable sway bar end links are highly recommended. Especially if you plan on going any lower than the highest height.

The ride feels great, although I think I need stiffer sway bars. X drive is heavy and the roll in corners is still noticeable. But she feels good now when I hit the throttle. The feel of "squatting" or nose diving is a lot less when accelerating and hitting the brakes. Flatter.

Thank you for the feedback - this is some great insight. Im guessing the spring rates aren’t too high since its more geared towards comfort. On the street comforts you can adjust rebound and compression independently right?!

That’s a great point on adjustable end links as I would not have thought of that.

I also thought about Bilstein p14 or p16 damptronic to retain factory modes and adaptive dampers. I know it would handle incredible but when I spoke to the Bilstein rep - he told me ‘ “The b6/8 is 45% stiffer than the b4 touring, and the p14/16 is considerably stiffer than the b6/b8!!!!!

I have been told the bilsteins aren't as reliable and tend to be too stiff. Also, I originally ordered the b16s and they wouldn't ship until August. I'm glad I swapped over to the KWs

Honestly I think you made the right decision. I live in Dallas and I’ve driven in Austin plenty. The more comfortable the ride the better IMO as Texas roads can be brutal.

Plus, w/ the KW, you get the lowered look which this car doesnt need a lot of lowering anyways IMO.

I come down to Austin to seem my friend about once every 3 months.Next time I come down I’ll hit you up beforehand so we can all grab a burger and beer.

By the way, were you military?

Yes I was. Army 2004-2011. 2005-2007 S Korea. 2007-2009 Washington state. 2009-2010 Iraq. 2010-2011 Washington state. Moved back to Austin to be close to family with a new kid. Ended up getting divorced from my wife and my family. My daughter, my GF, and I for now.

Pics of the 440. I'm hiding a lot of the flaws in the paint.

I’m in south Austin, which I sometimes refer to as North Buda. I live very close to Old San Antonio Rd. I lived in San Antonio from 2004 to 2014 while I was going to school there.

I’m buying my first BMW, a white 2017 440i ZF8 this coming Saturday (1/7/23). I had been shopping for an Audi S4 or S5, but couldn’t find one I liked enough to pull the trigger. I had a 2014 phantom black S5 in San Antonio. It got destroyed in an accident. I LOVED that car.

I joined this forum in anticipation of becoming a member of the BMW faithful. I’m pretty excited for Saturday to get here. I’ve been daily driving a Hyundai Sonata and its been slowly killing my spirit.

Happy New Year!!

Congrats and good luck on your search.
I am also south austin, though I am actually in Austin lol. Old San Antonio road is a fun one to drive back on for sure.

I just recently installed koni SA with eibach springs and man is the ride great. I’ve been on the f32 platform for about 4 years now and e82 just over a year. If you have any questions or need someone to go look at a car with you, I’m your guy

I’m in Pflugerville, just came across this thread.

Also just had a fun spirited drive on the mopac/45 with a alpine white M3 around 12 is this afternoon. ‘Twas fun. If you’re a member on here nice M3.
